Disney has quietly planted a major hint about Toy Story 5 (2026) inside one of Magic Kingdom’s most recognizable attractions. When Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin reopens following its extensive refurbishment, guests may notice more than just improved gameplay and updated ride vehicles.

Imagineers have hidden new Easter eggs throughout the attraction—subtle details that could tease elements from Pixar’s next Toy Story adventure.

At first glance, the ride may look like the same family-friendly shooter attraction that guests have loved for decades. Riders will still join Buzz Lightyear’s Star Command mission to defeat Emperor Zurg while competing for the coveted Galactic Hero score.

But this time, Disney is encouraging guests to keep their eyes open.

Somewhere inside the attraction are hidden nods connected to the upcoming Pixar film, and spotting them might become just as fun as blasting the targets.

A Classic Magic Kingdom Ride Gets a Major Overhaul

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin has been a Tomorrowland staple since opening in 1998. The attraction quickly became one of Magic Kingdom’s most popular interactive rides thanks to its simple premise: spin your ride vehicle, aim your blaster, and score as many points as possible.

Families have spent years battling each other for bragging rights, trying to reach the top Galactic Hero ranking.

But after nearly three decades of operation, the ride’s technology had started to show its age.

Disney closed the attraction in August 2025 for a major refurbishment aimed at modernizing the experience while preserving the gameplay fans love. When the ride returns in spring 2026, guests will immediately notice several upgrades.

The attraction now features redesigned ride vehicles styled to resemble Star Command equipment. These vehicles include onboard displays that track scores in real time, making the competition between riders easier to follow.

The old fixed blasters have also been replaced with handheld versions. This change gives riders much greater freedom when aiming at targets and makes gameplay feel more responsive.

The targets themselves have also been upgraded. Instead of relying on older mechanical systems, the refreshed ride uses digital targets that respond more clearly when hit.

These technological improvements helped open the door for one of the most interesting additions to the attraction: hidden Easter eggs.

Imagineers Encouraging Guests to Look for Secrets

According to Walt Disney Imagineering, the new technology made it possible to hide far more surprises throughout the ride than before.

Kimberly Alison, a producer with Walt Disney Imagineering, explained that the team wanted to preserve the small hidden details longtime fans enjoy discovering.

“We wanted to make sure that we preserved a lot of those special secrets that we know our superfans love to find,” Alison said.

The new digital targets allowed designers to rethink how gameplay works and introduce additional hidden elements that weren’t possible in the past.

“But now that we have all digital targets, it allowed us to actually take a look at the gameplay and add even more fun surprises,” Alison explained. “So we do encourage riders to keep a really sharp eye out as they ride.”

That encouragement may be more important than guests realize.

Some of those surprises appear to connect directly to Pixar’s upcoming sequel.

Hidden Toy Story 5 References May Be Inside the Ride

Disney has not revealed exactly what the Easter eggs look like, but Imagineers have strongly hinted that riders might spot references to Toy Story 5 (2026) scattered throughout the attraction.

These references could appear in several ways. Small background props, subtle visual details, or blink-and-you-miss-it moments inside the show scenes may hint at characters or story elements from the new film.

When asked directly whether the ride might contain nods to the upcoming movie, Alison teased that guests should pay close attention during their mission.

“There are some fun surprises that we can’t wait for you guys to discover,” she said.

This approach fits a long-standing Disney tradition.

Imagineers frequently hide Easter eggs throughout attractions as a reward for attentive fans. Sometimes those references point to classic Disney films, while other times they quietly tease projects that haven’t even been released yet.

If the updated Buzz Lightyear ride does contain Toy Story 5 clues, it would be one of the earliest hints about the movie available to fans.

Why Fans Are Paying Attention

The Toy Story franchise has one of the most beloved storylines in animation history.

It began with Toy Story (1995), Pixar’s groundbreaking first feature film that introduced Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the secret world of toys that come to life when humans aren’t watching.

The film’s success reshaped the animation industry and helped establish Pixar as one of the most influential studios in Hollywood.

The story continued with Toy Story 2 (1999), which expanded the emotional world of the characters, followed by Toy Story 3 (2010), a film many fans believed served as the perfect ending to the saga as Andy gave his toys to Bonnie.

Then Pixar surprised audiences again with Toy Story 4 (2019), which explored Woody’s personal journey and his decision to leave Bonnie behind to begin a new life with Bo Peep.

Now Pixar is returning to the franchise once again with Toy Story 5 (2026).

Because Disney and Pixar have revealed very little about the upcoming film’s story, fans have been searching for clues wherever they can find them.

That’s why the idea of hidden Easter eggs inside a Disney attraction has generated so much interest.

Other Changes Coming to the Attraction

The Easter eggs are just one part of the major refurbishment.

The updated ride also introduces a brand-new character named Buddy, a support robot who helps guide new Space Ranger recruits through their training mission at the beginning of the attraction.

Several scenes throughout the ride have also been refreshed with updated visuals and projection effects, giving the experience a more modern look while keeping its colorful sci-fi theme intact.

Even the attraction’s entrance has received upgrades, including a refreshed marquee and updated design elements that match the new ride vehicles and technology inside.

Meanwhile, Imagineers have also hinted that the queue area is being reassessed and refreshed as part of the overall project.

Disney hasn’t revealed exactly what those queue changes will look like yet, but the goal is to make the entire experience feel updated from the moment guests enter the attraction.

The Real Mission: Spotting the Easter Eggs

When Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin reopens, many guests will still focus on blasting targets and competing for high scores.

But others may ride with a completely different goal.

Instead of chasing the Galactic Hero ranking, they’ll be searching every corner of the attraction for hidden clues.

Somewhere inside the ride, Disney has tucked away hints about Toy Story 5 (2026).

And for Pixar fans, discovering those Easter eggs might become the most exciting mission of all.
