Forget the sitcom-style misfires of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Disney+’s 2022 series also tried to blend courtroom drama with fourth-wall-breaking antics, but fans quickly recoiled at awkward jokes, forced gender commentary, and dialogue that landed all over the place.
Even Tatiana Maslany’s half-decent performance as Jennifer Walters couldn’t save the show from cancelation—an outcome she attributed to the showrunners “blowing” the budget.

The failure of She-Hulk has become emblematic of Marvel’s recent creative missteps. Once a juggernaut, the franchise has stumbled across both its theatrical releases and streaming efforts, leaving fans wondering if the magic has faded.
Many are also wondering whether there’s any room for She-Hulk going forward. She’s not officially set to appear in any upcoming projects, but that doesn’t rule out any surprise cameos. Enter Marvel Zombies, the animated spin-off from the What If…? episode “What If… Zombies?!” premiering September 24. The show retains the same animation style as its predecessor while exploring a universe where iconic heroes turn undead.

The roster is impressive and features many returning MCU actors: Wanda Maximoff/Red Queen (Elizabeth Olsen), Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian (David Harbour), John Walker/U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Scott Lang/Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Blade Knight (Todd Williams), Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Hudson Thames), and Thor (Greg Furman).
Fans are speculating: could She-Hulk herself make an undead cameo? Maslany isn’t on the cast list, and trailers provide no confirmation. But in a universe where anyone can return in twisted, zombified form, the possibility remains tantalizing. It might even be a chance for Jennifer Walters to redeem herself in the eyes of viewers who rejected her live-action outing.

With Season 2 all but impossible, especially after Maslany’s recent Disney+ boycotts following Jimmy Kimmel’s removal in the wake of his comments regarding Charlie Kirk’s assassination, this animated series might be the only way to see a new, darker take on She-Hulk. Whether hero or zombie, Jennifer Walters may yet rise again—albeit in a form audiences never expected (angry and undead).
Marvel Zombies is scheduled to be released on Disney+ on September 24, 2025, and will consist of four episodes. It will be part of Phase Six of the MCU.
