As Disney prepares for a major expansion at Magic Kingdom Park, including a new ‘Cars’ themed area, guests have been mourning the recent closures of iconic attractions like the Liberty Belle, Rivers of America, and Tom Sawyer Island. Some guests are joking about a “loophole” that could save the Liberty Belle, or at least give them a chance to experience it again in the future.

Guests Find Loophole

The “loophole” involves a certificate issued to certain guests on the final day of operations for the Liberty Belle, as the attraction temporarily closed for the expansion. The certificate, bearing the signature of none other than Mickey Mouse, states:

“The undersigned Inspector for the District of Liberty Square certifies that: (NAME) has been examined this day and has successfully demonstrated proficiency as PILOT of THE LIBERTY BELLE and is hereby declared licensed to act as such for one year from this date on THE RIVERS of AMERICA in the MAGIC KINGDOM at the WALT DISNEY WORLD RESORT.”

The certificate includes a date and signature, providing guests with what they are humorously calling a “license” to sail the iconic steamboat. Think I found a loophole,” one guest posted on social media, sharing a photo of their certificate. “Think they’ll let me use this today? It says it’s good for a year.” Another guest joined in the fun, commenting, “I have mine too. TOGETHER WE STORM THE SHIP.”

Wishful Thinking?

The humorous idea of using a certificate to get back on the Liberty Belle has quickly gained traction among Disney fans, some of whom are treating the signed certificates as a symbol of their ongoing love for the attraction.

While it’s clear the certificates are part of a fun gesture by Disney on the closing day, it hasn’t stopped guests from imagining a future where they can use their “license” to bring the beloved steamboat back into action.

The Liberty Belle, which has been a staple attraction at Magic Kingdom for decades, serves as both a charming boat ride and a nostalgic piece of Disney history. As the park undergoes the changes that will bring the new Cars-themed area to life, many are saddened to see these iconic elements of the park close.

However, the good-natured humor from Disney fans proves that even in times of change, the magic of Disney is alive and well, at least in their imaginations.

For now, the Liberty Belle remains closed, and the future of the attraction, along with the ongoing expansion, remains part of Disney’s ever-evolving plans. While guests might not be able to use their certificates just yet, the playful attitude surrounding the situation serves as a reminder of how much Disney’s history continues to resonate with visitors.
