Universal Orlando Resort is home to some of the most thrilling attractions in the world, offering guests the chance to step into their favorite movies and stories.

From the high-speed launches of VelociCoaster to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the resort continuously evolves to bring new experiences. However, Universal also understands the value of keeping fan-favorite rides in top shape, and that’s exactly what’s happening this weekend as a classic water ride makes its long-awaited return.

After more than a month of refurbishment, Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges, a staple of Islands of Adventure since its opening in 1999, is set to reopen on March 15, 2025.

The popular water raft ride, inspired by the classic Popeye cartoons, has been closed since February 1 for routine maintenance. This refurbishment ensures that the ride, which is known for its wild rapids and guaranteed soak factor, remains in top condition for guests looking to cool off.

The timing couldn’t be better, as Universal Orlando has extended its park hours leading into spring break. At least one of the resort’s two theme parks—Universal Studios Florida or Islands of Adventure—will remain open until 9 p.m. each night for the upcoming week.

That gives guests extra time to experience the parks, and with the Florida heat beginning to rise, the return of Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges will be a welcome addition to the lineup.

Located in Toon Lagoon, the ride takes guests on a chaotic adventure as Popeye attempts to rescue Olive Oyl from Bluto, sending riders through rapids, waterfalls, and plenty of splashes. It’s a must-ride for fans of classic cartoons and those who don’t mind getting completely drenched.

With the warmer months approaching, its return comes at just the right time for guests looking for a refreshing way to enjoy their Universal day.
