The arrival of one of the franchise’s most beloved characters might change how we experience Galaxy’s Edge forever.
Starting May 28 through May 11, Galaxy’s Edge will be celebrating the Season of the Force, an exciting event for Star Wars fans of all ages. Along with new merchandise, a new nighttime experience, and limited-time food offerings coming to the land, Disney parks have announced their latest meet-and-greet character arriving at Black Spire Outpost, none other than the galaxy’s most famous Jedi, Luke Skywalker.
A video posted by the official Disney Parks social media accounts shows a young Luke Skywalker gearing up alongside his trustworthy droid R2D2 and walking along the streets of the planet Batuu.

As exciting as this news might be, we can’t help but wonder what it means for the future of the land.

Since its opening in 2019 at Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the official storyline for the land has been set between The Last Jedi (2017) and The Rise of Skywalker (2019). Guests take part in the battle between the Resistance and the evil forces of the First Order and encounter iconic characters from the sequel trilogy, such as Rey, Kylo Ren, and First Order stormtroopers roaming the streets of Batuu.
Despite the appearance of previous characters like Ahsoka Tano, Bobba Fett, and the Mandalorian with Grogu slightly shifting from the established timeline set by the Imagineers when creating the land, the appearance of the original trilogy’s main character sporting his iconic outfit from Return of the Jedi (1983) might indicate that Disney is planning on abandoning the limitations of a specific time period completely.
With news on a new mission featuring Mando and Grogu coming to Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, it might indicate that things are going in a new direction in a galaxy far, far away.

This change would not only allow guests to interact with many of their favorite characters from the previous trilogies like Han Solo and Leia but also give more creative liberty when designing future rides and experiences based on the ever-growing Star Wars Universe. After all, Star Wars is a franchise that has expanded to include three different generations of fans from all over the world.
Luke Skywalker will be appearing on Batuu for a limited time during the Season of the Force at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim.
