Walt Disney World Resort is continuing refurbishment work around the EPCOT World Showcase. Inside the Magic has previously shared updates on a years-long mystery project in the Canada World Showcase Pavilion, but today, we’re traveling around the World Showcase Lagoon over to EPCOT’s version of Mexico.
Crews have been working on different parts of the Mexico World Showcase Pavilion over the past few months, including a lengthy refurbishment of its only ride, the Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros. The attraction closed in January, and Disney cast member previews began earlier this week. It’s scheduled to reopen for all Disney Park guests on March 15, 2025.
In addition to the scheduled attraction refurbishment, construction crews have been repainting the exterior of the Mexico World Showcase Pavilion pyramid. Scaffolding appeared on the building last month.
On Thursday, WDWNT reported that scaffolding remained on the pyramid and themed scrims had appeared as crews continued repainting the building. A closed walkway was reopened on the outside, but the inside door was still blocked, and a sign told guests to “please use an alternate exit.”

Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t publicly acknowledged this refurbishment or stated when it will end. The Mexico pyramid likely won’t appear very different to EPCOT guests when crews are done painting because they seem to be doing a simple refresh.
Across the EPCOT World Showcase Lagoon, crews continue working on a mystery refurbishment project in Canada. In 2023, construction walls appeared near the Trading Post merchandise location, blocking the former location of Le Boutiques des Provinces, a luxury shop that closed in the early 2000s.

In the last few months, scaffolding has appeared on the Hotel du Canada facade, and crews were spotted actively working on an awning at one of the building’s entrances. Walt Disney Imagineers filed permits to “install signage” on the building, and witnesses spotted a piece of paper showing concept art on the interior of a construction wall. However, nothing about the project has been made public.
The ongoing World Showcase refurbishments have been tied to President Donald Trump, who recently vowed to enact tariffs on Canada and Mexico. The President also suggested that the United States should annex Canada as a 51st state, leading Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to urge Canadians to stay away from their Southern neighbor. Officially, these EPCOT refurbishment politics have nothing to do with politics.
When you visit the EPCOT World Showcase, do you turn right to start in Canada or turn left to start in Mexico? Let Inside the Magic know in the comments!
