Guests hoping to enjoy a peaceful boat ride from Disney’s Old Key West Resort to Disney Springs will have to continue making alternate plans. The water taxi service, officially known as the DVC Ferry, remains suspended while ongoing dock renovations are underway.

The refurbishment began in early February 2025 and is expected to stretch into early April. Although Disney hasn’t shared a specific end date, the updates are part of a broader effort to maintain and refresh guest amenities across Walt Disney World Resort.

If you’re familiar with the DVC Ferry, you know it’s a popular transportation option that offers a relaxing alternative to buses or walking. The ferry normally shuttles guests directly from the Old Key West boat dock to the bustling Disney Springs district. But for now, that peaceful route is out of commission.

Anyone walking near the resort’s waterfront area will notice clear signage indicating the ferry service is not running. Several folding signs are stationed directly in front of the dock’s entrance to block access and inform guests about the temporary closure.

In addition to these, Disney has updated a larger wooden sign near the dock to reflect the change. This sign has been repainted to match the resort’s aesthetic, with blue borders and a wave pattern that fits seamlessly with the existing DVC Ferry sign.

Although the construction hasn’t drastically altered the dock’s structure so far, there are visible changes. The most noticeable update is the replacement of the dock’s old wooden planks, which had darkened over the years due to weather exposure. These have now been swapped out for lighter-colored wood, suggesting an effort to not only repair but refresh the dock’s overall look.

Other elements that are currently missing include the handrails and rope lines that used to frame the dock. These have been removed during the refurbishment process. However, a yellow “Please Wait Here” line—often used for organizing guests as they board—is still visible on one side of the dock. Nearby, a stack of metal posts sits beside a trash bin, likely set aside for upcoming installation.

For those who still want to travel by water, there is a silver lining. The Sassagoula River Cruise is still running, but with a slightly different route. Guests can still enjoy boat service between Old Key West and Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, including the Treehouse Villas. However, to get to Disney Springs, guests staying at Old Key West will currently need to use resort bus transportation.

The refurbishment has been acknowledged on Disney’s official website for the resort, providing guests with an early heads-up before their visit. The listing confirms that the dock overhaul is planned to wrap up sometime in April, but guests are encouraged to check back for updates in case that timeline shifts.

Old Key West is no stranger to upgrades, as it was one of Disney’s earliest Disney Vacation Club resorts. Over the years, the property has kept up with resort-wide renovations and refreshes, balancing its laid-back Florida Keys charm with the need to modernize guest amenities.

The current dock update seems to follow that same pattern—maintaining the charm while keeping things safe, sturdy, and visually appealing for future ferry riders.

Until then, guests may want to plan ahead and allow a little extra time when heading to Disney Springs. While the boat ride may be missed, it’s good to know that Disney continues investing in guest experiences—even if it means a little wait in the short term.
