Jim Carrey’s portrayal of the Grinch in the 2000 movie of the same name is iconic (although the film has a few different titles, depending on where in the world you are). No other actor could have pulled off the insanely whimsical and hyper-zany nature of the green, Christmas-loathing, Who-hating Dr. Seuss character like The Mask star did (sorry, Cumberbatch).
In fact, Carrey’s Grinch remains so beloved by fans that he was re-created at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. And now, with the festive season well underway, he’s meeting guests in the popular candy store Honk Honkers in Universal’s Islands of Adventure which has been kitted out to resemble his home at the top of Mount Crumpit, as seen in the film.

And, unsurprisingly, this version of the Grinch, who’s totally identical to Jim Carrey‘s in the 2000 film–prosthetics, voice, mannerisms, sarcasm, quips, and all–is now causing mischief and mayhem, just as one would expect.
One guest, Kirsty Clyne from Ayr, Scotland, who has been documenting her life on TikTok as a Scot living in the US, recently shared her encounter with the green-furred inhabitant of Mount Crumpit at Universal’s Island of Adventure in a video, but not everyone is happy.

In the clip, the Grinch approaches Kirsty, pointing to her Grinch-themed sweater and telling her that it “looks nothing” like him, adding, “This is just poor imitation of character.”
Kirsty reveals that the Grinch is also on her “Crocs”, to which the Grinch replies–while imitating her Scottish accent–“Oh you got me on your Crocs as well? Oh look at that, I’m so useless, she steps on me all day.”
He then asks whether Kirsty and her company are Scottish or English. When she tells him they’re Scots, the Grinch takes a hilarious shot at Disney, saying, “Oh, Scottish. So we’re more of a Merida. Wrong company, Disney’s going to sue me. It’s okay, they sue everyone. I feel like I have some sort of accent going on, with the rolling of the R’s.”

While Kirsty, who goes under the TikTok handle @kirstyclyne, found the encounter with the Grinch deeply amusing, others weren’t quite as impressed. Captioned “the grinch making fun of my Scottish accent”, the clip has attracted attention from Kirsty’s TikTok followers.
One follower, @amy, commented, “His Scottish accent was better before he knew if you were Scottish or English. He went a bit Irish.” Another user, @sean, echoed this criticism, saying, “As a Scot, this accent is p***.” The user @jellybean said that “He sounds Irish.”
But, of course, the Grinch also has his defenders. “Scottish grinch is amazing lol,” says @28godzilla, while @stupidgamer says, “this guy doesn’t get paid enough, just awesome.” Interestingly, @christinathevaos says “his Scottish accent impersonation makes me think it’s Michael Myers or the real Jim Carrey.” Ahem, “who” knows–maybe it is.
Fortunately, Kirsty is undivided on the matter, and she ends up getting a photograph with the Grinch at the end of the video.

The Grinchmas festivities at Universal’s Islands of Adventure don’t end there–Seuss Landing has been kitted out with Christmas decorations from Whoville where you can mingle with the residents (they’re not quite as terrifying as they are in the film); there’s also The Grinchmas™ Who-liday Spectacular, a live retelling of the classic tale, with performances starting at Seuss Landing on November 22. Grinchmas ends on December 31.
