For the sixth day in a row, one theme park at the Walt Disney World Resort will be shuttered to all guests.

As the Walt Disney World Resort comes out of its busy Thanksgiving period, which saw huge crowds and Lightning Lane records broken, guests have been encountering chillier air in Central Florida. While this may enhance the seasonal events at the parks and add to the Christmas-themed environment, it is causing detrimental operational issues.
Due to a cold front sweeping through the Sunshine State, the Walt Disney World Resort has decided to shut the Blizzard Beach water theme park for a sixth consecutive day. Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park first closed to all guests on Monday, December 2, and was set to reopen on Thursday, December 5.
However, the closure has been extended day by day. It looks set to reopen on Sunday, December 8, with hours listed for 10 a.m. through 5 p.m.

At Universal Orlando Resort, the Volcano Bay Water Theme Park had also been shut this week, but it looks set to open today (December 7) at 10 a.m.
Looking ahead, roller coaster weather is set to be the norm for Florida residents and visitors as December continues. Click Orlando recently reported that temperatures may be above normal coming out of the weekend, but a stronger cold front is on the horizon from Tuesday onwards, potentially leading to another shutdown of Florida’s water parks.

More on Blizzard Beach
Blizzard Beach Water Park at Walt Disney World blends Disney’s signature storytelling with thrilling water-based adventures. Opening its doors on April 1, 1995, the park is themed around a whimsical tale of a freak Florida snowstorm that birthed a ski resort—only for the sun to reclaim its territory, turning it into a water park like no other.
At the heart of the action is Summit Plummet, a 120-foot slide that challenges even the bravest thrill-seekers with its staggering drop and high speeds. The slides at Disney’s water parks aren’t always popular, though, as one woman riding Humunga Kowabunga at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park suffered a serious wedgie that led her to sue Walt Disney Parks & Resorts.

At present, only Blizzard Beach is open for guests (when temperatures are steady), with Typhoon Lagoon closed for the season. The alternate openings for the two Disney World theme parks is a measure carried over from the pandemic era of operations at the Florida resort and looks set to continue indefinitely.
