Warner Bros. Discovery recently announced the opening of a new Harry Potter store in Chicago, Illinois, set to debut in the spring of 2025. The new retail space, measuring 12,300 square feet, will occupy a prime location at 676 Michigan Avenue, a high-traffic downtown area recognized for shopping and entertainment.

Previous store openings in cities like New York and London have created immersive experiences for fans, characterized by intricately designed interiors and unique merchandise. Expectations are high, as enthusiasts anticipate attractions reminiscent of those found in other outlets, such as movie props, themed areas, and exclusive merchandise.

Sarah Roots, Executive Vice President of Warner Bros. Worldwide Studio Tours and Retail, stated the ambition behind the Chicago location is to provide a uniquely themed shopping experience that brings a touch of “Harry Potter magic” to the Windy City.

In addition to offering a wide array of products—from house robes to themed stationery—the stores serve as interactive experiences that allow fans to engage with the Wizarding World in innovative ways. For instance, the original store in New York included various thematic rooms, such as one designed to mimic the Ministry of Magic.

Warner Bros. Discovery hasn’t provided an official opening date for the Harry Potter store in Chicago, Illinois.

J.K. Rowling, the creator of Harry Potter, is currently embroiled in a cyberbullying lawsuit filed by Algerian boxer Imane Khelif. This legal battle stems from accusations of online harassment and transphobia directed at Khelif, who became the target of a social media mob during the 2024 Olympics.

Rowling has faced longstanding criticism for her transphobic views on gender identity. This conflict escalated when Rowling publicly commented on Khelif following her Olympic matches, even though the International Olympic Committee confirmed that Khelif was born a woman and eligible for women’s sports.

Critics have noted that Rowling’s statements contributed to an environment of hostility, ultimately leading to Khelif’s decision to pursue legal action.

The lawsuit specifically names Rowling and others involved in spreading hateful rhetoric against Khelif. Legal experts have highlighted the serious nature of the claims, which include charges like public incitement to discrimination and public insult based on gender. Depending on the outcome, Rowling could face significant legal repercussions, including jail time if extradited to France.

Khelif’s legal team aims to combat the harmful online climate fueled by high-profile figures, hoping to shed light on the implications of cyberbullying and its far-reaching consequences.
