In October 2020, a brand-new show premiered on Netflix and took the world by storm. Emily in Paris told the story of Emily Cooper, a young woman working at a marketing firm in Chicago.

Emily’s boss, Madeline (Kate Walsh), is supposed to move to Paris to work at a French marketing firm Emily’s company recently acquired. However, when Madeline learns that she is pregnant, Emily learns that she will be moving to Paris instead.

Of course, Paris is a lot different from Chicago, and Emily struggles with French customs and the language. Luckily, she has her incredibly sexy French chef neighbor Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) and new friend Mindy (Ashley Park) to help her adjust and make Paris feel at home.

Despite its popularity, Emily in Paris has sparked a lot of controversy since its 2020 premiere and only has a 49% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Many think that the storylines seem contrived and ridiculous, and the writing seems a bit lazy at times.

Let’s be honest, in the first 10 minutes of the first episode, the Chicago Cubs get into the playoffs on a walk-off grand slam. Then, after Emily has been in Paris for a bit, we learn that it is early August.

Which means that the Cubs got into the playoffs in July? A two-minute Google search will tell you that’s just highly improbable. And just because most watchers might not be huge baseball fans doesn’t mean you can’t be at least slightly accurate.

Even with all the criticism the show faces, it is a light-hearted show that allows viewers to escape and have fun. And it’s never a pain to look at the beautiful sights and sounds of Paris.

Part one of season 4 of Emily in Paris premiered on Netflix on August 15, with part two releasing on September 12. Days after part two was released, Netflix announced that Emily in Paris (maybe now Emily in Rome) had been renewed for a fifth season.

However, whether all of its stars will return is up in the air.

In a recent interview with the French publication Le Figaro, Lucas Bravo — who plays Emily’s love interest, Chef Gabriel — revealed that he is not very interested in continuing with this show.

He took aim at the show’s writing and the direction Gabriel’s story is taking, saying that he doesn’t know if he will be in season 5. He said being on the hit Netflix show no longer “stimulates” him.

“It will depend on the script because I think I’ve covered everything a bit. I don’t really have any freedom and, as I’m starting to be given some elsewhere, I’m getting a taste for it. Life is short. The filming of this series lasts five months. Do I want to sacrifice them to tell something that doesn’t stimulate me? “

“I would like him to find a bit of panache again. In the last season, the writing was in this idea of the 90s where lovers move away, kiss, move away again… Everything is based on the lack of communication. It’s a bit archaic. Today, the new generation verbalizes, confronts each other, it doesn’t work anymore this side we cross paths and we don’t understand each other. People see this mechanism coming from miles away… And I don’t want to be part of a cog that tends not to consider the intelligence of the spectators.”

At this time, we do not know what will happen with Chef Gabriel in season 5, and if Bravo decides not to return, his character will probably be mentioned as remaining in Paris while Emily continues her adventures in Rome.

Last season, Emily went to Rome when she met a handsome man in Paris, and then she decided to stay there when Sylvie decided to expand Agence Grateau in order to represent Emily’s handsome beau’s family company.

Inside the Magic will keep readers updated as we learn more about season 5 of Emily in Paris!
