Hurricane Milton’s impact on Walt Disney World Resort continues to linger, with a significant disruption at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park. A massive tree fell in the Kilimanjaro Safaris queue, damaging an area and leaving it uninhabitable for animals.

As this news spreads throughout the Disney community, fans express sadness and frustration over Hurricane Milton and its impacts on Walt Disney World Resort. As the theme parks reopen, it is clear that not all will be the same as before.

Tree Damages Crane Enclosure

The large tree, brought down by Hurricane Milton earlier this week, crashed through the crane enclosure located along the Kilimanjaro Safari route. While practically all of the park’s animal residents have returned to their habitats after the storm passed, the damaged enclosure remains vacant. Fans speculate that this delay could signal a longer absence of the cranes from public view.

Disney officials have not released a timeline for when the enclosure will be repaired or when the cranes might return, leaving visitors curious about the status of these unique animals. Yesterday, Dr. Mark Penning, the Vice President of Disney’s Animals, Science, and Environment, shared information about the animals at the park, saying:

“Thank you to our incredible professionals. Just as our cast members and guests rode out the storm during Hurricane Milton, our team of animal experts cared for the thousands of animals that call Walt Disney World home. From beautiful birds (like flamingoes 🦩) to the smallest butterflies and our family of mighty western lowland gorillas, cast members monitored conditions, kept a watchful eye on the animals and assessed and carefully removed storm debris before moving the animals back into their habitats, after the storm passed.”

The statement does not mention the cranes or the damage to their exhibit. However, the safety of all animals through the storm was expressed.

There is a MAJOR tree down in the Kilimanjaro queue. Broke the cranes enclosure. Safe to say they won’t be making a return any time soon.

Park Recovers from Hurricane Milton

The entire Walt Disney World Resort temporarily closed earlier this week to prepare for and weather Hurricane Milton. The park has since resumed normal operations, with all other animals back in their exhibits. However, the fallen tree has added an unexpected challenge for Kilimanjaro Safaris staff, who are focused on addressing the damage to ensure animal safety and guest enjoyment.

Kilimanjaro Safaris is one of Animal Kingdom’s flagship attractions, taking guests on an immersive journey through recreated African savannas. The ride is known for giving visitors the chance to encounter animals in expansive, naturalistic habitats. The cranes, housed in a dedicated enclosure along the route, are among the many species showcased throughout the safari experience.

While the setback is disappointing for some visitors, many are grateful that all other animals have returned safely after the storm. With the safari ride operational and efforts underway to restore the enclosure, fans hope to have the full experience back on track soon.
