Did you know that Disneyland Park breaks up Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse every single night? A Disneyland Resort guest recently shared a video of the practice on social media, and it spread, surprising many fans of the beloved animated characters.
Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse have been together for 96 years, since the premiere of Steamboat Willie (1928). Those early, hand-drawn depictions of the characters entered the public domain earlier this year, ending the decades-long copyright stronghold held by The Walt Disney Company.
As time passes, versions of Mickey and Minnie’s pals, including Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy, Pluto, and more, will join them in the public domain.

Even when it lost copyright of the early versions of Mickey Mouse, The Walt Disney Company vowed to protect the character’s integrity and legally pursue anyone who wrongly used non-public domain versions of its intellectual property. Despite some fans’ fears, Disney didn’t remove depictions of Mickey from Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort, and the international Disney parks.
Disneyland Resort has continued one of its lesser-known traditions: Mickey and Minnie’s “kiss goodnight.” TikTok user @stuckinneverlandco recently shared this video of the character experience:
@stuckinneverlandco If its not like this i dont want it 😭😭🥹✨ #disneyparks #disneyland #toontown #disneylandtips #disneytips #distok #disneyadult #disneyhacks #disneythings
During the day, Mickey and Minnie Mouse meet guests at their houses in Mickey’s Toontown. After they’ve finished greeting guests, they meet in the theme park land and share a kiss before Mickey drops his beloved at her front door.
Disney Parks fans loved the video.
“The way he fell to his knees omg,” @carog2802 wrote. “I want to SOB.”

“So glad you got to see this!” said @hey._.its._.jay. “My favorite hidden gem in the park!”
Still, other social media users were surprised to see Disney split the couple at bedtime.
“Two houses in this economy!” @raqueld74 commented.

“I aspire to have this relationship,” said @mintydoodz. “Been together forever. Good night kiss, go to our separate homes.”
Mickey’s Toontown closes briefly when Disneyland Park has fireworks but reopens before the park closes for the evening. Head over shortly before the theme park closes to share this magical moment with Mickey and Minnie Mouse!
