Fireworks are a key part of the Disney theme park experience, but one resort has just confirmed plans to axe its show for 2024.
Back in the 1950s, Fantasy in the Sky made its debut as the OG Disney fireworks show. Performed come nightfall at Disneyland Park, the beloved show ran for decades, making pyrotechnics a traditional way to end each Disney day.

Fast-forward over half a century and fireworks at Disney parks represent the pinnacle of innovation, blending state-of-the-art technology with beloved Disney narratives.
Shows like Happily Ever After at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Park and Disney Illuminations at Disneyland Paris are prime examples of this evolution, featuring stunning projections, laser lights, and synchronized soundtracks that immerse guests in Disney’s rich storytelling tradition.
The integration of projections onto iconic landmarks like Cinderella Castle and Sleeping Beauty Castle adds a new dimension to the experience, making each show a unique celebration of Disney magic.

Disneyland Paris, however, has just confirmed that it’s axed one of its shows. As per DLP Report, the resort has canceled Magic Over Disney.
“Magic Over Disney” a limited-time Nighttime Spectacular usually performed a few nights in November (for Bonfire Nights) and January is no longer scheduled going forward.

The show—which is only available on select dates during the off-season and colder months of the year, usually in November and January—was performed in Walt Disney Studios Park (soon to become Disney Adventure World). It featured projections on the Disney park’s Tower of Terror, with DJ Mickey Mouse remixing iconic Disney tracks.
While it was only a short-term fixture, it had solid reviews.
As Air Magique wrote in early 2023, “There’s really not one specific moment that stood out from the rest. Mostly because everything was just so much fun. The entirety of Magic Over Disney is one big party … If you get the chance, check it out. It’s totally worth watching and kids as well as adults will have a blast. Quite literally with all the exploding fireworks and catchy music.”

Sadly, those who haven’t experienced the show for themselves are unlikely to do so any time soon.
The good news is that the resort still has two shows going on right now (Disney Illuminations and Disney’s Electrical Sky Parade, the beloved drone show which will end in January) and is set to debut a brand-new, even more advanced show both on and above Sleeping Beauty Castle and Main Street, U.S.A. on January 10, 2025. This is said to include a “unique blend of projections, fountains, breathtaking lighting effects and an original soundtrack.”
Considering how impressive the resort’s entertainment has been in recent years, we have extremely high hopes for this show!
Stay tuned for more updates!
