Directed by Nia DaCosta, the sequel to the popular Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film Captain Marvel (2018), titled The Marvels (2023), AKA Captain Marvel 2, experienced several scheduling adjustments before its eventual release as part of the Multiverse Saga’s Phase Five. The film ultimately debuted on November 10, 2023, following delays.

Report: Disney Cuts Israel References From Upcoming ‘Captain America’ Film
Marvel Studios, led by President Kevin Feige and operating under The Walt Disney Studios, has faced significant challenges post-Infinity Saga, particularly after the events of Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019), which marked the end of Iron Man/Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and the retirement of Captain America/Steve Rogers (Chris Evans).

Amidst recent controversies, including the firing of Kang the Conqueror actor Jonathan Majors and reports of growing “superhero fatigue” among audiences, Disney and Marvel Studios have admitted to a recent decline in storytelling quality within the MCU.
One frequently mentioned example of this issue is The Marvels, which received a lukewarm response from critics, audiences, and the box office. Now, Marvel Studios looks to be doubling down on Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel’s (Brie Larson) story, as the studio ventures into the twilight of the Multiverse Saga.

If recent insider reports are to be believed, Marvel Studios plans to bring Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers back to the forefront of Marvel fans’ minds.
According to Alex Perez of Cosmic Circus, it seems like this will likely come to fruition with the next Avengers: Doomsday, as a Q&A session between fans and the Marvel insider revealed:
midnight: hey Alex I hope you’re having a wonderful day and a wonderful month that follows. Do you think we could see Captain Marvel soon, maybe in like Spider-Man 4 , Captain America 4 and Shang-chi 2 since Brie Larson’s best friend is directing I know that he’s never directed a movie without her in it, so it’ll be cool to see her have a moment with Spider-Man.
Alex Perez: I’d wouldn’t be surprised if she showed up in Spider-Man 4tbh, however, your best bet for the next appearance will be in Avengers: Doomsday, where she’ll be one of the main characters in that movie.
Now curious about the upcoming Avengers plan, fan midnight asked Perez if Captain Marvel’s role would be central in Doomsday and Secret Wars:
midnight: is Captain Marvel going to be a lead or a leading avenger in Doomsday & Secret Wars? I’ve heard rumors of her having a big role in both movies and hopefully none of that got scapped. Russos are directing, so I feel safe that they’ll do her justice.
Alex Perez: She will be one of the leading Avengers in these movies, yes.
Obviously, this is one piece of news that has certain fans very upset — particularly the set that tends to complain about the presence of stories centering on women in the MCU. Will Disney stick to this new decision? Only time will tell.
