Disney+ (Disney Plus) will see a new Halloween hit take the platform by storm, if all goes to Disney’s plan.

Following Chris Evans’ passing of the Captain America mantle and the retirement of Steve Rogers, coupled with the ultimate sacrifice of Tony Stark/Iron Man, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is poised to face even more significant and more formidable challenges. Earth’s Mightiest Heroes now stand on the edge of the unknown as they journey through the Multiverse Saga.

The MCU first boldly ventured into streaming television, incorporating mainline movie actors into the new Marvel Television series. Phase Four officially began in 2021 with the highly anticipated release of WandaVision on Disney+ (Disney Plus).

The series featured Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) from the mainline Marvel movies, exploring their lives as a seemingly blissful newlywed couple — even though Vision was deceased in the MCU canon. The show’s fourth-wall-breaking, idyllic sitcom format captivated viewers with the (seemingly) charming town of Westview, New Jersey. Until everything unraveled spectacularly, that is.

Due to the immense success of WandaVision, two sequel/spinoff projects have been confirmed: Vision and Agatha All Along (formerly known as Agatha: House of Harkness, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, and Agatha: Darkhold Diaries), focusing on Kathryn Hahn’s nosy neighbor (and scheming witch) Agatha Harkness/Agnes from WandaVision.

Naturally, this Scarlet Witch-adjacent storyline, with its greater themes of campy witches, Marvel magic, and (ostensibly) show tune-singing covens, is The Walt Disney Company’s secret weapon when it comes to bringing audiences fresh off of Deadpool & Wolverine‘s summer success back into the world of Disney-branded Marvel TV.

Disney+’s New Halloween Bid

Ahead of Disney’s D23 Expo set to occur this weekend, Empire shared some exciting looks at the new series, alongside some interesting tidbits from cast and creators. Showrunner Jac Schaeffer shares that the action begins when a “mysterious goth teen [played by Heartstopper’s Joe Locke] shows up in [Agatha’s] life.”

This teen is rumored to be Scarlet Witch’s son Billy Kaplan from another dimension (Billy Maximoff AKA Wiccan from 2021’s WandaVision and 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness).

According to Empire, the series will “feature dark magic, elements of horror, and – if reports are to be believed – the odd musical number”.

Actor Joe Locke shared a tidbit about production, which gives us a little insight into the general feel and plot for the series:

Jac [Schaeffer] sent Kevin Feige a picture of the Witches’ Road set and he replied, ‘Oh my God, we’re making The Goonies’. That’s what I’d been saying — that we were making this adventure series.

Fans of the franchise can likely expect more news to drop regarding Agatha All Along this weekend at D23, and potentially even a new trailer or sneak peek — so stay tuned to Inside the Magic for more updates.

Agatha All Along will begin airing on September 18, dropping its initial two episodes at once and then releasing an episode a week until early November.

More on Agatha All Along

The upcoming Disney+ series by Marvel Television, Agatha All Along led by Jac Schaeffer, appears to be embracing a “musical theater” style, inspired by the unexpected success of “Agatha All Along” from WandaVision.

This connection is fitting, as renowned Broadway and Disney lyricists and composers Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez created WandaVision’s iconic jingles. Additionally, Broadway legend Patti LuPone will portray the older witch Lilia Calderu within the witches’ coven, and she has been quite open about the excitement behind the scenes.

Rio Vidal (Aubrey Plaza), Alice (Ali Ahn), and Sorceress Jennifer Kale (Sasheer Zamata) will also feature in the new Marvel TV series. Miles Gutierrez-Riley is rumored to play “Billy’s Boyfriend”, or “Teddy”, despite rumors that Locke’s Heartstopper colleague Kit Connor is being eyed to take on the role of Hulkling — AKA Teddy Altman/Theodore Altman from the Marvel Comics.

Reprising their roles from WandaVision as Westview residents are Emma Caulfield Ford as Sarah Proctor, who played Dottie Jones in the WandaVision sitcom; David Payton as John Collins/Herb; David Lengel as Sarah’s husband Harold Proctor/Phil Jones; Asif Ali as Abilash Tandon/Norm; Fred Melamed and Debra Jo Rupp as Mr. and Mrs. Hart; and Amos Glick as the pizza delivery man, Dennis.
