It’s been almost two years since Oscar Isaac made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as the Fist of Khonshu in the Disney+ series Moon Knight. But despite rumblings of a second season, Moon Knight has yet to reappear in the current Multiverse Saga.
However, a new report signals the next time we see the avatar of an ancient Egyptian god will be in a rather unlikely place–and with a new actor to boot.

Moon Knight was the sixth television show from Kevin Feige’s Marvel Studios, coming after WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, What If…?, and Hawkeye. It was the first MCU show to debut in 2022 and was succeeded by Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
Starring Oscar Isaac as the titular Moon Knight, the series followed Isaac’s many personas (Steven Grant/Marc Spector/Jake Lockley) as he uncovered a plot regarding the power of the Egyptian gods and dealt with his dissociative identity disorder.

While always said to be a limited series, following the end of the show, many fans wondered if Moon Knight would be back for a second outing. Rumors swirled, even from Oscar Isaac himself, about this possibility, but nothing has ever surfaced regarding the character’s future. Directing team lead Mohammed Diab said in early 2022 that he felt the character could be involved in the greater MCU for at least a decade, with the hope being that he would transition into big-screen projects further down the line.
A new update, however, suggests that Moon Knight will be back soon, but not in the way audiences may expect, and certainly not with Oscar Isaac.

A couple of years ago, Marvel Studios announced that it would be expanding on the Zombies episode from What If…? Season 1 with a whole animated series called Marvel Zombies. Existing in the MCU but outside of the current timeline (hello, Multiverse!), Marvel Zombies is a four-part miniseries created by Zeb Wells and directed by What If…?‘s Bryan Andrews. The show is expected to debut on The Walt Disney Company’s streaming service, Disney+, sometime this year. However, in January 2024, Marvel Zombies was said to be undated.
Hopefully, the show will be released, even as Disney CEO Bob Iger recently shared that some titles had been quietly scrapped behind the scenes at the House of Mouse.

When Marvel Zombies does release, fans can expect to see Moon Knight once again, except here, the character is said to also be Blade. Per Toonado‘s report, “the plan is for Blade to be the new Fist of Khonshu in Marvel Zombies, making him the new Moon Knight.” The rumor comes from scooper CanWeGetSomeToast on social media, and while there is no confirmation from Marvel or Disney, it does seem valid that Moon Knight would be back as someone new in this universe.
It is also unlikely that this version of Blade will be the upcoming Mahershala Ali iteration fans are anticipating in the future live-action Blade movie. Scheduled for release next year, Blade has been hit with many development woes, and, at this point, a 2025 debut seems unlikely. Ali made his MCU debut in the post-credits scene of Eternals (2021) in an uncredited cameo.

Marvel Zombies will also feature the return of Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, AKA Ms. Marvel, and will be rated TV-MA when it eventually hits Disney+ in the near future.
