Iman Vellani, who portrays the charismatic and lovable Ms. Marvel in the current Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), has just revealed she will be returning for future MCU projects; she just doesn’t know when.

According to Polygon, the actress made several cheeky comments regarding her Marvel fate at Saturday’s 2024 Anime Awards, saying she has been “assured” about her return.

“So that feels good, but there was no more assurance than that. [laugh] They give me breadcrumbs, and I try and make a meal out of it.”

Vellani’s most recent Marvel project was in 2023’s The Marvels, a film that struggled both financially and culturally, failing to truly resnoate with a large portion of Marvel fans. The film itself was a breath of fresh air when compared to the current crop of MCU projects, offering up good humor and a trio of heroes with great chemistry. Vellani starred alongside Marvel legend Brie Larson, who portrayed Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers), and Teyonah Parris, who portrayed Monica Rambeau.

The Marvels officially released on November 10, 2023, quickly becoming one of the most controversial films put out by Marvel Studios. The film was released amidst the writers’ and actors’ strike, meaning that none of the actors or crew could promote the film. The film secured 62% on Rotton Tomatoes, making it the third-worst-rated film in the MCU, with Eternals (2021) sitting at 47% and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania (2023) taking the bottom spot at 46%.

The Marvels had a plethora of issues working against it, with reported script and scene changes adding to the issues. The internet has not come any closer to forgiving Brie Larson for her comments made during the press tour for Captain Marvel (2019), in which she criticized white reviewers and Marvel’s mostly male audience.

Because of the comments, many have not given Brie Larson and her portrayal of Captain Marvel a true chance.

However, The Marvels added to the mix considerably, with the charismatic Iman Vellani taking a leading role inside this new trio. Vellani cut her Marvel teeth in her own show named Ms. Marvel, which debuted on Disney+ in 2022.  The 21-year-old is a massive Marvel fan in real life, with Ms. Marvel being her first true acting job.

The series has been sitting quietly following its season one finale, with many fans patiently awaiting its return. With the actress’s recent comments, it seems that Marvel and Disney are working to create an even better season two, but only time will tell.
