Target deeply discounted some of its Disney Store merchandise this week amid ongoing political turmoil for the family-friendly entertainment brand.
It’s a tumultuous time for The Walt Disney Company. One month into 2024, thousands from both sides of the aisle are boycotting the company. Many former fans on the left are protesting the Mouse’s financial aid to Israel last October amid the ongoing devastation in Gaza. On the right, followers of conservative influencer “Libs of TikTok” were recently outraged by the Animaniacs reboot. (Though produced by Warner Brothers, the cartoon streams on Hulu and Disney+).
On Wednesday, a federal circuit court judge dismissed Disney’s First Amendment lawsuit against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and the Central Florida Florida Tourism Oversight District. Disney vowed to continue the legal battle against the former Republican presidential candidate as DeSantis’s team declared victory over the corporation.

Target joined forces with the Disney Store in 2019, initially opening immersive Disney sections in 40 stores. Five years later, just 21 Disney Stores are left in the United States. They’ve been replaced by hundreds of mini-stores in Target locations across the United States. Despite a robust online business in shopDisney, Disney also allows Target to sell Disney Store merchandise online.
It’s unclear if the latest Target sale has anything to do with ongoing controversies surrounding The Walt Disney Company. The superstore chain often discounts toys and other merchandise to make room for new products, especially after the holiday season. January is traditionally slow for retailers, forcing them to offer lower prices to entice customers.
Whatever the reason, Disney fans have a rare opportunity to get Disney Store merchandise at up to 40% off. The sale even applies to some items from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ most recent film, Wish (2023), like a Star light-up plush doll for $23.99 (regularly $39.99) or a deluxe Wish doll gift set for $59.99 (regularly $99.99). Little ones can dress up as Asha and Dahlia with discounted costumes for $35.99 (regularly $59.99; discount only applies to select sizes).

Disney Parks fans will notice some familiar items from the Munchlings collection on sale, including Chip’ n’ Dale Falafel Pita Pocket plushes for $20.99 each (regularly $34.99). Some of these products, like the Stitch Pineapple Upside Down Cake Munchling plush and Winnie the Pooh Honey Cake Munchling plush, are still sold at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort for full price.

Visit Target’s website to view all of the discounted Disney merchandise. It’s unclear how long the sale will last. Discounted prices may not apply at all stores.
