When guests get on any Disney attraction, they will hear the famous phrase, “please keep all arms and legs inside the ride vehicle at all times,” or at least a rendition of that speech in order to ensure that guests do not try to do something foolish and gravely injure themselves. In the past, we have seen guests disobey these rules, which not only results in potentially fatal injuries but also, being removed from the park, and in some cases, trespassed for life.

Today, on Disney’s newest attraction, things were no different, yet guests decided not to listen to the rules and jumped out of a fast-moving ride vehicle, sadly placing themselves in grave danger.

Shanghai Disney Resort just opened their Zootopia section in Shanghai Disneyland. Zootopia, also recognized as the City of Zootopia, constitutes a dedicated land area at Shanghai Disneyland that guests have been waiting to enjoy for years. This themed zone is the world’s inaugural Zootopia section, inspired by the 2016 animated film of the same name. As of December 20, 2023, the land officially opened to all guests.

As explained by TDR Explorer, Upon entering the land, visitors will immediately immerse themselves in the vibrant world of Zootopia as they stroll along Mane Street, the bustling main thoroughfare adorned with storefronts of diverse sizes, all converging at the city’s core – Savannah Central.

For those craving a sweet treat, a visit to Jumbeaux’s Cafe awaits. This ice cream kiosk draws direct inspiration from the cafe visited by Judy and Nick. Guests can indulge in a variety of food and beverage options inspired by the film, including popsicles, and the beloved Big Donuts, a favorite of Clawhauser.

Most recently, we saw Disney debut the free-roaming animatronic is Duke Weaselton, one of Zootopia‘s antagonists, this comes just after Disney shared their free-roaming Judy Hopps animatronic just a few months ago.

The newest attraction that has been added to the docket is Zootopia: Hot Pursuit, where visitors are welcomed to step into the shoes of rookie police officers alongside Officer Judy Hopps and her partner Nick Wilde. This cutting-edge attraction will have guests participating in a thrilling pursuit as they make their way to the Zootopia Day concert, headlined by the acclaimed Gazelle, as explained by TDR Explorer.

As we can see below, account China 8 took to X (formally, Twitter) to share what appears to be a serious injury of a child getting stuck under the trackless cop car ride vehicle.

Translated, the post reads, “Only a few days after Zootopia opened, all guests who come to the park today will receive a ticket valid for the next 6 months #上海ディズニーランド #SHDL #ShanghaiDisneyland”

It appears that the young guest dropped their Mickey Mouse ears and jumped out of the ride vehicle to retrieve them. While we have seen adults pull stunts like this in the past (to steal a cucumber on Living with the Land in Disney World, for example), considering this was a child who lost their ears, it was likely just an honest attempt to retrieve them.

Much like other trackless coasters, such as Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, there is no track, so guests would not necessarily know what direction the ride vehicle was moving next, making it hard for the child to predict in what direction the ride vehicle would head in.

The ride does have restraints, but it seems that the guest was able to escape them. At the moment, the attraction is closed.

Inside the Magic has reached out to China8 as well as Shanghai Disneyland in regard to updates on the injury, but at the time of this article’s publishing, no updates have been provided.

It was not stated how injured the child was, however, the photos do appear to show that the ride vehicle has the guest pinned down.

All of us at Inside the Magic hope that no serious injuries were sustained.
