While the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, is called “The Most Magical Place on Earth,” it’s far from perfect. Over the last few years, we’ve seen some truly terrible things happen, ranging from line-cutting to full-on fistfights in Magic Kingdom. Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom are all incredible theme parks that we highly recommend you visit, as well as the two fantastic water parks. Just be warned that even at Walt Disney World, the real world can seep in.

Some things are just out of our control and the control of Disney, and today’s incident is a great example.

Due to the sheer size of the Walt Disney World Resort, it’s quite common for guests to want to stay on-property. While there are many great off-property options, there’s really nothing quite like staying in a Disney-owned and Disney-themed resort. Combine this excellent attention to detail with the incredible service provided by Disney cast members, and you have a hotel experience that guests will remember for a lifetime.

Guests staying on-property also have access to Walt Disney World transportation, whether that be the bus, Monorail, or Skyliner services. However, The Walt Disney World Resort features over 30 different resorts for guests, meaning it can be quite hard to choose which one you actually want to stay at.

These hotels are definitely not worth it if you don’t have power, which is exactly what happened to hundreds of guests over the weekend.

Guests staying at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort were in for a rude awakening Sunday afternoon when all power was cut. This meant that guests could not use the internet, television, lights, or other amenities in their rooms or the resort itself.

A few guests ran to social media to try and figure out what was going on, but the problem remained a mystery. Disney’s Port Orleans Resort is made up of two distinct hotel experiences: Riverside and French Quarter. Each one offers guests a unique experience, and we highly recommend trying both if possible. The power outage occurred at Port Orleans Riverside, though we aren’t sure if it affected any other resorts.

“Currently at Port Orleans Riverside, and the whole resort is out of power,” said a guest. “Cast members have no idea what is going on.”

At the time of publishing this article, we do not know what caused the power to go out or how long guests had to manage with no electricity. We hope this issue was taken care of quickly and guests could return to their magical vacation.

Have you ever stayed at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort? Where’s your favorite place to stay in Walt Disney World?
