One of the most recognized and controversial figures today, Elon Musk is easily one of the wealthiest men in the world, having owned and founded multiple successful companies, including SpaceX, Tesla Motors, and, most recently, the social media platform X.

However, Musk is also known for being divisive and holding incredibly divisive opinions. This was most recently seen when he shared  and replied to antisemitic Tweets, specifically one that says Jewish people have a “hatred for whites.” Musk replied to this Tweet, saying, “You have said the actual truth.” Naturally, people did not respond well to this.

Not only was Musk condemned by the public, but the watchdog group Media Matters called out the Tesla CEO, explicitly pointing out times when companies had their Tweets next to racist and offensive advertisements. This led to numerous companies pulling their advertising from the platform, including Apple, IBM, Warner Bros., Lionsgate, and Disney.

Now, Elon Musk is furious. Not only has he responded with a lawsuit against Media Matters, but he has called out the different brands that are boycotting X. And he really let them have it.

During an appearance at DealBook Summit 2023, Elon Musk addressed the controversy surrounding the companies boycotting X. More specifically, he accused them of blackmailing him to stifle his free speech.

“Don’t advertise,” he urged any marketer with misgivings. “Somebody’s going to try to blackmail me with advertising?! Blackmail me with money? Go f*** yourself. Go. F***. Yourself. Is that clear? I hope it is.” He continued, singling out Disney CEO Bob Iger, “Hey, Bob, if you’re here in the audience. Sorry, that’s how I feel.” Earlier, Iger had stated he doesn’t know when Disney will return to X but admitted that he “respects” Elon Musk as a businessman.

Naturally, Musk knew who to blame for these companies leaving and potentially ruining the social media platform X. “What this advertising boycott is going to do is it’s going to kill the company,” he extrapolated. “And the whole world will know that those advertisers killed the company. It will be documented in great detail.”

Musk is continuing with a lawsuit against Media Matters, blaming them for all the companies leaving. However, he knows the legal system won’t be the end of this. ‘The judge is the public,” said Musk. However, it seems the public has already made their opinion on the matter known.
