For several years, Kevin Feige has served as the President of Marvel Studios. Throughout his tenure, he has taken on the crucial role of overseeing the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), now under the ownership of The Walt Disney Company. The MCU has left an indelible mark on the superhero movie genre and the entire film industry, leaving a lasting impact, even though opinions about it may vary. The expansive narrative, known as the Infinity Saga, reached its zenith with the highly anticipated releases of Avengers: Infinity War in 2018 and Avengers: Endgame in 2019, marking the culmination of Phase Three.

As Robert Downey Jr.’s iconic Tony Stark/Iron Man bid a heroic farewell, sacrificing himself to defeat Thanos (played by Josh Brolin), and Chris Evans retired his portrayal of Steve Rogers/Captain America, entrusting the Captain America legacy to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson/Falcon (now the new Cap), the MCU has transitioned into a fresh chapter. The Marvel Cinematic Universe now stands on the brink of a major opportunity, as it prepares to showcase prominent superhero teams like the Fantastic Four and X-Men in the spotlight.

The Plan For the MCU’s Future

According to past leaks, Kevin Feige’s plan for Avengers: Secret Wars is for it to follow the storyline introduced in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty in a similar manner to how Endgame served as a “Part Two” to Infinity War. Furthermore, he envisions Secret Wars to surpass the achievements of Avengers: Endgame by a significant margin.

Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s iterations of Peter Parker/Spider-Man, already introduced into the MCU from 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home are said to make a big return, as are Fox’s X-Men characters and the new Fantastic Four.

The prospect doesn’t solely involve the possible return of “deceased” characters, such as Tony Stark’s Iron Man, from the MCU and its established Multiverses, as explored in projects like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) and What If…? (2021). It also establishes a precedent for a massive Marvel event of unprecedented magnitude crossing all of recorded Marvel existence — not just the Marvel Studios continuity as we know it.

To add to that, further reports indicate that Feige wants Secret Wars is positioned to act as a “soft reboot” that will provide Marvel Studios with the opportunity to “prune” and essentially clear the slate of everything within the MCU’s existing history, and redesign the entire future of the MCU according to their creative vision. Basically: the whole MCU will be rebooted from scratch come Secret Wars.

The general consensus of many insiders is that Feige’s Secret Wars (likely directed by Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy) is generally set to become the be-all and end-all of Marvel crossovers, setting up the MCU to go out with a huge bang — with the film bringing back beloved heroes for past franchises like Maguire’s Peter Parker and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine/James Howlett/Logan leading the way for one final, epic showdown.

According to known Hollywood and Marvel Studios insider CanWeGetSomeToast, this idea that all these other Marvel universe franchises from the past — including the Fox X-Men Universe, Sony Spider-Man Universe (SSU), and even the much-debated Marvel television series’ pre-Disney+ (Disney Plus), like Netflix Marvel series — are canon to the Multiverse, and likely to “crash or converge” in the near future:

Kevin Feige confirms that the Marvel movies and TV series created by Fox/Sony/Netflix ARE canonical to the MCU (in a Multiversal capacity). He continues to say “you never know when [these] timelines may just crash or converge” confirming the crossover of these characters in the MCU’s future, notably in ‘DEADPOOL 3’ and ‘AVENGERS: SECRET WARS’. — From Kevin Feige’s foreword to ‘Marvel Studios: The Marvel Cinematic Universe An Official Timeline’

(text in image) On the Multiverse note, we recognize that there are stories–movies and series–that are canonical to Marvel but were created by different storytellers during different periods of Marvel’s history. The timeline presented in this book is specific to the MCU’s Sacred Timeline through Phase 4. But, as we move forward and dive deeper into the Multiverse Saga, you never know when timelines may just crash or converge (hint, hint / spoiler alert).

This confirmation from the Marvel Studios President himself is fascinating, because it means that the Secret Wars rumors indicating that every single “Marvel” entity from the past being planned to feature in the main Secret Wars plot.
