Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser will close its doors forever on September 1. The Resort had only been in operation for barely a year and a half. The closing of this expensive Resort will reportedly cost Disney nearly half a billion dollars, according to the earnings call that took place yesterday between The Walt Disney Company and its shareholders.

Disney to Lose a Quarter of a Billion Dollars on Failed Resort – Price Tag Due to “Inflation”

With the price tag so expensive, it’s no wonder Disney had to close down the entire Resort. There was a desperate attempt to reduce the price for overnight stays, which failed miserably as the cost was too much for most families and fans. A weekend chance to enter the world of Star Wars? Yes, but for $5,000, most families chose to have a lengthier visit to Walt Disney World Resort. Despite the Resort being on the outskirts of Disneys Hollywood Studios inside Batuu, where Star Wars Galaxys Edge is located, it still underperformed. Besides Park revenue climbing 13 percent to $8.3 billion, Disney is losing a reported $250,000, a quarter of a billion dollars. Disney’s CEO, Bob Iger, mentioned inflation playing a vital role in the Resort closing down, but the price tag ultimately led to its demise. Disney plans to write off $2.5 million per room, according to business analyst Walt Hickey. We hope that Disney and Company will learn from this hefty mistake and create more affordable future experiences for families and any Star Wars fan.
