One of the most popular and successful animated series to come from the Disney Channel in the late 2000s was Phineas and Ferb.

The show follows brothers Phineas and Ferb as they make each day of their summer vacation fun, including building full-scale roller coasters, hosting a concert, and even time traveling. They also constantly try to avoid their older sister, Candace, as she tries to tattle on them to their mom every time they do something crazy. Their pet platypus, Perry, doubles as a secret agent keeping the world safe from Dr. Doofenshmirtz.

The series ran on Disney Channel and Disney XD from 2007 to 2015 before announcing earlier this year that the show was being revived for another two seasons. Series creator Dan Povenmire recently had good news to share with fans about the upcoming reboot.

The biggest fear many fans had was that the new seasons wouldn’t have the same writing team as the original series, therefore making the show unable to capture the charm and lovability of the original. However, most of the writers and the team working on the new episodes worked on the original series, keeping the integrity of the older episodes and bringing new life to the characters.

The new seasons seem to be a continuation of the original series, with the explanation that most of the episodes will feature the characters as kids, although they haven’t ruled out the possibility of doing some episodes with them as teenagers. Fans are also excited at the promise of doing “Meap Me in St. Louis,” an episode that was hinted at towards the end of the original series featuring Meap, who became a fan-favorite character.

Yesterday was the first day of the new Phineas and Ferb writers’ room, meaning that production should officially be starting soon, even in the wake of the WGA strike. While nothing has been confirmed as far as an official release date for the series, fans can expect to see their favorite characters some time next year.
