Disney is facing a massive recall due to hazardous toys, with nearly a dozen reports on the products. Learn if your family is at risk.
There is no question that Disney knows how to capitalize on its intellectual properties, often releasing adorable toys, breathtaking replicas, clothes, accessories, and so much more inspired by the most popular franchises in the company, including shows and movies produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Lucasfilm, and Marvel Studios. However, Disney is facing a massive recall after multiple reports of a hazardous line of children’s toys.

A recent report from the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission states that over 16,000 Disney character figurines are being recalled after receiving nearly a dozen of reports of small parts detaching from the figurines, posing a small part choking hazard for small children. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported as of this article’s publishing.
The toy line involved is “My First,” manufactured by Kids Preferred, which launched in May 2022. “My First” toys are soft vinyl figures of various Disney characters including Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Buzz Lightyear, and Stitch, some of which had a bead rattle, and measured between 4.25 and 5.25 inches high.
“My First” Disney toys could be found at BuyBuy Baby, amazon.com, and many other toy, gift, and bookstores around the United States and Canada, selling about 16,140 pieces in the United States in addition to about 600 sold in Canada. The BuyBuy Baby website describes the figurine: “Bring your little one’s favorite characters home with the Disney Baby My First Mickey Mouse Vinyl Figurine. This beautifully designed figurine is made with a soft matte vinyl and sized perfectly for your baby to play, chew, and interact with.”
It is surprising to see the toys being recalled for posing a small part choking hazard for children, especially when the line of “My First” toys were aimed and promoted for babies and small children. Unfortunately, this is not the first time Disney products have to be recalled.
In 2022, about 87,000 Disney-themed children’s clothing sets were recalled after the textile ink that was used to print the items showed levels of lead that exceed federal limits. And earlier this year, the FDA recalled a total of 378 products including hand sanitizers from Disney which contained high levels of methanol, putting users at risk of suffering a methanol poisoning, in addition to concerns of false advertising.
