While EPCOT is famous for its food, authentic cultural experiences, and the giant “golf ball,” one attraction (and character) stands above the rest,

Journey Into Imagination takes Guests on a ride that features The Institute’s beleaguered chairman Dr. Nigel Channing (played by Eric Idle), who sets out to prove how the five senses capture the imagination—but he’s upstaged by the mischievous Figment!

This ride is loved, hated, and everything in between by the Disney Parks community. Some claim its a beloved ride that deserves its spot in EPCOT. Others hope to see it get a refresh, and with a Figment movie in the works now, an update to the attraction is more possible than ever.

Figment has always had a sturdy fan base since his 1981 creation in the original Journey Into Imagination attraction. Paired with his wizened guide, Dreamfinder, Figment was a playful, mischievous creature that brought out the best in our imaginations.

However, no one can dispute that the ride is dated and in need of some upkeep. In the past few months alone, we have seen the ride encounter several issues and breakdowns.

The ride is also facing a major issue at the very beginning of the attraction, which you can see in the tweet linked below from the aptly-named DreamfinderGuy (@DreamfinderGuy):

Happy EPCOT 40! The door at the beginning of Imagination is broken, you can hear the sound scene from load lol

As you can see, the door that is supposed to open and close for each train is not functioning anymore, meaning Guests can see the load station while they’re actually riding the attraction.

This not only hurts the theming of the ride but taints the first impression Guests may get if they have never been on before. In response to the tweet, one user stated the ride is in “rough” shape, saying that Disney either needs to “fix it or close it.”

Another user agreed, saying, “Think it’s time for a renovation, maybe renovated back to the original version, but with updated technology.”

Disney has not yet announced anything regarding this attraction, but we hope it gets the love it deserves real soon!
