On your marks, get set, go!
Lace up your running shoes because Walt Disney World’s runDisney Marathon Weekend is here!
After being canceled last year due to the pandemic, runners are gearing up for an exciting weekend of sweat, tears, and pixie dust, alongside some interesting new menu items from Disney to celebrate the return of its popular marathon.
The Walt Disney World Marathon is an annual marathon held every January in Orlando, Florida by runDisney. The race has been held since 1994 and includes a 5K, a 10K, and a half marathon, as well as a number of challenges involving one or more of these races.
The 2021 in-person version of the race was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with all registrants given the option of running the race virtually or obtaining a full refund.
The 26.2 mile race features an exciting course across the Walt Disney World Resort, meandering through Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park.
The runDisney official Twitter page revealed the introduction of some new food and beverage options available to runners during the weekend’s Health and Fitness Expo held at the
The Health and Fitness Expo is every runner’s first stop during the race weekend, with each participant having to collect their race bib, shirt, and gEAR bag. The event features the latest in running and fitness equipment, seminars on training and nutrition, and the chance to purchase official runDisney merchandise and other sports-related products offered by exhibitors.
There will be three different venues at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex hosting the runDisney Health and Fitness Expo in 2022. At the Visa Athletic Center, ESPN Wide World of Sports Grill is offering some new dining items for Guests:

Yes, you are seeing that correctly. One of the options is literally “popcorn chicken” – chicken skewers stuck into a 50th anniversary popcorn bucket.
It seems a bizarre combination, but is especially odd considering this is being served during a Health and Fitness Expo.
Disney recently revealed its exclusive event merchandise in anticipation of the upcoming runDisney marathon events this year. The collection includes new medal designs, tracksuits, Magic Bands, and spirit jerseys, and be found this weekend at the AdventHealth Arena.
As stated on the official Disney Parks Blog website, this collection will “take inspiration from the shimmery EARidescence of The World’s Most Magical Celebration. This year’s event weekend merchandise captures the magic of the events running right in the heart of the celebration. Whether you’re taking on 3.1 or 48.6 miles, runners participating in the weekend’s events will find a variety of logo performance apparel”
Walt Disney World’s runDisney Marathon Weekend also involves challenges for runners to complete. The Dopey Challenge, introduced in 2014 along with the Disney World 10K, involves completing all four races – the Disney World 5K on Thursday, the Disney World 10K on Friday, the Half Marathon on Saturday, and the full Marathon on Sunday – for a combined 48.6 miles over four days. Runners who complete the Dopey Challenge are also awarded the Goofy’s Challenge medal.
The Castaway Cay Challenge, introduced in 2015, involves completing any Marathon Weekend race before boarding a Disney Cruise Line ship at Port Canaveral the following Monday and sailing to Castaway Cay –Disney Cruise Line’s private island in the Bahamas– to complete a 5K race across the island.
