Over the past few months, Animal Kingdom has seen a few changes. With the 50th anniversary in tow, the Tree of Life is now illuminated at night with its Beacon of Magic. On top of that, a new daytime show, Disney KiteTails, has also debuted! Although there is a lot of new and unique aspects to the Park, there are also some offerings, or in this case, an attraction that has been taken away.

We have known that Primeval Whirl in DinoLand USA closed permanently for months. Just recently, we saw the entire coaster demolished and removed from the theme park. At the moment, the space is being used for stroller parking, but it seems that eventually, the space could be used for a new attraction.

Some fans have thought that this could be the beginning of the end for DinoLand USA. However, there are still other attractions themed to the area, like the popular DINOSAUR! ride, which has not been permitted to have any work done or scheduled for any closures. Therefore, it seems unlikely that the land as a whole would disappear, especially since Disney has not mentioned this idea in any capacity.

This weekend has been the Walt Disney World Marathon weekend, with runners participating in the sold-out event for days. During runDisney events, Guests are often able to see rare characters and extinct attractions that regularly are not available to Guests. Hidden in the staging area for some of the Animal Kingdom boats was the comet that came from the demolished Primeval Whirl. Bioreconstruct (@bioreconstruct) snapped a fantastic photo that shows the destroyed attraction piece sitting in the large grassy area, looking like it has been left in the dust. A true reminder the attraction is gone.

If you never had the chance to experience Primeval Whirl before its demolition, the official Disney description read:

Sweep through a series of sudden dips and turns as your time machine spins on its own path. Whiz by cartoon dinosaurs hastily preparing for their impending extinction and glimpse a shower of kooky meteors.

Glide through a fossilized jigsaw puzzle of dinosaur bones, before leaving the past behind—just in time!

If you want to visit Disney’s Animal Kingdom, there is a ton to see and do! You can head over to Expedition Everest in Asia (when it is not under refurbishment) to visit the terrifying Yeti. Pandora will bring your Avatar dreams to life with Flight of Passage bringing Guests into the world of the Na’vi. DINOSAUR is still filled with giant dinos at every turn, and over at Kilimanjaro Safaris, you can take a ride on a real safari, and if you are lucky, a giraffe might even step in your way! A Celebration of Festival of the Lion King is now running, and the show is not one you should miss.
