Disney announced last year several major updates pertaining to Marvel Studios and one of those exciting developments was that Marvel would be developing a spinoff series to Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) starring everyone’s favorite guardian– GROOT.
Since that announcement, however, things have been relatively quiet surrounding the series. Until today.
In a promotional video on Twitter, Disney+ announced that the spinoff would be coming to the streaming platform in 2022.

In addition to I Am Groot, Disney+ also made several other major announcements about movies and series coming to the platform in 2022, including Free Guy, starring Ryan Reynolds.
I Am Groot will give MCU fans a look at Groot’s early life but there has not been confirmation at this point if the series will be based on Groot’s early life prior to the original Guardians of the Galaxy or if the series will be based on Baby Groot, who was seen in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017).

I Am Groot features everyone’s favorite baby tree in a series of original shorts coming to Disney+.
Directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt (Peter Quill/Star-Lord), Vin Diesel (Groot), Bradley Cooper (Rocket Raccoon), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), and Dave Bautista (Drax). The popular series has a planned third film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 expected to be released in 2023.
Disney+ also previously announced that a fun one-time spinoff in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is being produced, which will be coming to the streaming platform in December 2022.
