There’s just something about Whoopi in a nun’s habit, singing her heart out that makes us drop everything when it comes to details surrounding ‘Sister Act 3’. Disney previously shared the news that indeed, ‘Sister Act 3’, was in the works as an exclusive Disney+ film. A recent interview with a ‘Sister Act 3’ producer provides a new update for the new film.

When Sister Act debuted in 1992, the film starring Whoopi Goldberg (AKA “Deloris Van Cartier”) as a Las Vegas singer forced to join a convent after being placed in a witness protection program, became a huge success. A year later, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit was released featuring Deloris, or Sister Mary Clarence, back again… this time as a music teacher to save a school.
The return of Whoopi as Deloris was confirmed back in 2020 when Disney took to Twitter to announce, “Sister Act 3 is in development! @WhoopiGoldberg returns to star and produce, with @TylerPerry as a producer as well. Sister Act 3 will premiere on @DisneyPlus.”
The third installment of Sister Act will be directed by Tim Federle, who created and produced the popular Disney+ series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. With Whoopi Goldberg returning nearly three decades later as ‘Deloris’, we’re sure the film will be high-spirited with an incredible mix of music and comedy. Whoopi is a producer along with Tyler Perry and Tom Leonardis.

Producer, Tyler Perry recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to share an update about working with Whoopi Goldberg on ‘Sister Act 3’. Perry was quoted saying:
“The script is being written, and I am the producer on it — not directing. We brought on an incredible director [Tim Federle] and Whoopi’s really excited. I think that this is just what the country needs. We need that feel-good moment in the movies where you go, “Oh my God, I left there singing.” That’s my hope.”

Disney has yet to release a plot for ‘Sister Act 3’ or many details beyond the producers and director.
Are you eager to see ‘Sister Act 3’ or should Disney let the films be with Sister Act and Sister Act 2?
