One of the most popular franchises to ever come out of the Walt Disney Company is easily Pirates of the Caribbean. When Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl was released in 2003, Disney had no idea if it was going to be successful.

Actually, they thought the opposite. The film was being considered to go straight to DVD, and big actors like Robert De Niro turned down the project due to the unsure nature of the film’s success. This would be the first time Disney took an attraction and turned it into a movie and not the other way around. Of course, we know now that the film was a massive success and now has five films in the cannon. It also paved the way for Disney to create more films based on their original attractions like The Haunted Mansion starring Eddie Murphy and Jungle Cruise starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.

Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow quickly became one of the fan-favorite characters by fans as the drunk, yet charismatic pirate continued to charm viewers throughout the years. Now, many are waiting for more news regarding Pirates of the Caribbean 6.

At the moment, there are two films that are seemingly being developed. One is a film that takes place in the same universe as the previous films, but will have an entirely new storyline with a female-led cast starring Margot Robbie. The second is Pirates of the Caribbean 6, which would theoretically be a continuation of the first five films, written by Craig Mazin and Ted Elliott.

The sixth film, however, will not include Johnny Depp’s character of Jack Sparrow as Disney has given the actor the boot after his ex-wife Amber Heard claimed that the Disney star abused her. The two are taking their legal battle to court early next year, where people like Elon Musk and James Franco will be put on the stand to testify. The removal of Depp from the franchise caused a massive divide for many fans, as his character is incredibly beloved, leaving many boycotting the franchise. Since then, we have not heard much regarding the progress of the sixth film, and it seems that one of the franchise stars has not either.

Fan-favorite actor Kevin McNally, who played Captain Jack’s first mate, Mr. Gibbs, would be a character many would expect to see in a future movie, but it seems that the actor has heard nothing about it.

“If there was, me and my bank manager would very much hope that Mr Gibbs was a part of it! I personally don’t see how you would do a Pirates movie without Mr Gibbs.”

McNally has publically spoken out on his allegiance to Johnny Depp in the past, stating that no one can replace Jack Sparrow. Other actors that we could potentially see return to the film are Orlando Bloom (Will Turner), Kaya Scodelario (Carina Barbossa), Brenton Thwaites (Henry Turner), and many more!

Considering Disney has not come out with an announcement, we cannot be sure on when another installment will be released in the franchise, but since we know that they told Depp he would not be in any future movies, we do know they are then planning on there being future movies.

Who would you like to see return in Pirates of the Caribbean 6?
