In case you missed it, Scarlett Johansson and Disney went to battle over Black Widow and its release plan. When the film came out, like many other recent Disney films (Cruella, Jungle Book), the film was released both in theaters and on Premier Access on Disney+. What this meant was that viewers could choose to watch the movie at home for $30.00 if they had Disney+ or could go to the theater.

As Scarlett’s legal team claimed, this would heavily impact Johansson’s financial gain from the film as she was entitled to box office revenue, and by giving viewers a choice to stay home, they argued that that lose the actress a fair amount of money as one-third of the revenue ($125 million) from the film came from Disney+.

The legal battle became quite gruesome, with Disney calling Johansson “callous” and Scarlett’s legal time firing back and others raising claims of misogyny. Now, however, all of that bad blood has seemed to disappear — and right on queue. Disney has settled with the star, and after allegedly “cutting ties,” they have now stated they can’t wait to work with her again. Disney also seems to rank high for Johansson again as well, as she noted how proud she is to work with Disney and to see what they create.

Interestingly enough, this all happened days before the film was set to be released onto Disney+ for free! Today, anyone with Disney+ can log in to their account and watch the movie for free, without having to pay the Premier Access fee. Now, films such as Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings are having a 45-day theatrical release before being offered to subscribers at home.

The official description of the movie reads:

In Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller “Black Widow,” Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down [Taskmaster and Dreykov (Ray Winstone)], Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.

Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as Natasha/Black Widow, Florence Pugh stars as Yelena, David Harbour portrays Alexei/The Red Guardian, and Rachel Weisz is Melina. “Black Widow” — the first film in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe — is directed by Cate Shortland and produced by Kevin Feige.

Are you planning on watching Black Widow now that it is available on Disney+ at no added cost?
