Though these may not be the most magical element added to this area of the theme park, they will be used to create a one-of-a-kind nighttime spectacular called Harmonious, which will debut to Guests on October 1, 2021.
Harmonious won’t be the only show that the barges are used for, though! During the day, Guests will be able to catch a brand-new show with water fountains. At this time, we, unfortunately, do not have an opening date or even a name for the upcoming daytime show, but on a recent trip to EPCOT we spotted the barges testing the water elements!
In the video below, you can see water spraying from the barges as Imagineers and workers test certain elements for the upcoming show.
We do not have much information regarding the upcoming daytime show; however, during D23’s Fantastic Worlds Celebration event called “EPCOT – The Magic of Possibility,” Zach Riddley, Imagineering Portfolio Executive for Walt Disney World Resort, and Melissa Valiquette, Vice President of EPCOT shared that the massive barges will be permanently installed in the middle of World Showcase lagoon to provide entertainment all day.
“These show elements will become a defining feature of EPCOT,” said Riddley. Their scale gives us a chance to bring a beautiful new ambient daytime look to the world showcase lagoon with water fountains that perfectly situate these elements within World Showcase and of course the real magic will happen at night when they come alive.”
Harmonious, the new nighttime spectacular that will also use these barges, will debut to Guests on October 1, 2021. For more information on Harmonious, visit our website here.
