An all-new dining experience is coming to Disney’s Contemporary Resort very soon!
Here is what you need to know about this new dining opportunity at Walt Disney World Resort.
Disney has officially announced that Steakhouse 71 will be coming to Disney’s Contemporary Resort at Walt Disney World Resort. This reimagining of the restaurant location previously known as The Wave will be coming to Disney World as part of the 50th anniversary, The World’s Most Magical Celebration!
Disney Parks has taken to Twitter to share the announcement:
We’re cooking up new experiences at Disney’s Contemporary Resort for “The World’s Most Magical Celebration!” Steakhouse 71 will be a casual dining concept that gets its name from the resort’s opening year, plus, a new dining experience is coming to California Grill.

As you can see in the announcement above, something new is coming soon to California Grill, as well. Disney had previously hinted that a 50th anniversary dining experience would be coming to California Grill, the table service restaurant located at the top of Disney’s Contemporary Resort that offers spectacular views of Magic Kingdom. You can read Disney’s last announcement about California Grill here.
Interestingly, while Walt Disney World Resort is getting Steakhouse 71 — dubbed “71” as 1971 is the year Disney World opened — a similar restaurant at Disney World’s sister Resort has closed for good.
Disney fans are likely very familiar with Steakhouse 55, a signature dining experience that was located in the Disneyland Hotel at Disneyland Resort for years. This table service restaurant — also similarly dubbed “55” as that is the year Disneyland opened — was a Disneyland staple for many Guests. However, it was confirmed earlier this summer that it would be closing for good. So, it seems that while Disney World will be getting Steakhouse 71, Disneyland’s Steakhouse 55 is no more.
Steakhouse 71 and the new experience coming to California Grill are just two of the exciting happenings taking place at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. The Resort hotel rooms have been reimagined to be themed after The Incredibles, a fan-favorite Disney and Pixar animated film. This Resort on Disney World property is certainly getting some TLC.
