When Disneyland Resort reopened its theme parks after a historic 412-day closure, nightly fireworks were not on display. Luckily, Guests only had to go without their fireworks fix for a couple of months, because Mickey’s Mix Magic lit up the night skies once again on July 4.
The projections and fireworks show is extremely popular with Guests and because of that, can result in some serious crowding issues, which is problematic since the show typically begins right before the Park closes.
The crowds that gather to watch Mickey’s Mix Magic also leave the theme park at the same time, which results in quite a lot of traffic at the Mickey & Friends and Pixar Pals parking structure, as well as long lines for the buses to the Toy Story parking lot. In an effort to try to ease the crowds and spread them out a little, Disney is changing up its schedule for Mickey’s Mix Magic.
Beginning on August 6, Mickey’s Mix Magic will take place one hour before park closing — it currently takes place only 30 minutes before the theme park closes. Since the show is just over 10 minutes long, the show starting at 9 p.m. instead of 9:30 p.m. will allow for almost an hour of time in the Park before Disneyland officially closes for the evening, which means Guests may be able to get on another ride or two before leaving or wait out as some of the crowds leave the Park. Hopefully, this can help lessen the crowds that tend to pile up immediately after the firework show ends and at Park closing.
The showtime for Happily Ever After at Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida also changed recently — read all about that here.
Here is some more information on Mickey’s Mix Magic show from the Disneyland website:
Rock your world at Mickey’s Mix Magic, an extravaganza bursting with magical song tracks, kaleidoscopic projections and exciting lights and lasers guaranteed to electrify your soul!
The scene is set as state-of-the-art projections, lighting and lasers turn Main Street, U.S.A., Sleeping Beauty Castle and the façade of “it’s a small world” into dazzling displays of sight, sound and color.
On select nights, fantastical fireworks will add a pinch more pixie dust to the occasion. Attendees will be catapulted into a fun, family-friendly dance party sure to transform Disneyland Park into one of the greatest celebrations for Mickey and Minnie.
Mickey’s Mix Magic is currently only scheduled to run through August 31, per the official Disneyland Resort website. On September 4, the Halloween Time season will begin at Disneyland and the incredibly popular Halloween Screams projection and fireworks show will begin. Halloween Screams is not on Disneyland’s entertainment schedule at the moment, so it is unknown if that show will also take place an hour before closing. Halloween Screams will run nightly with projections and, on weekends, the show will feature both projections and fireworks.
Make sure to check the Disneyland website for the most up-to-date information about the Park’s entertainment offerings, as well as its attraction refurbishment schedule and restaurant openings.
Inside the Magic will update readers when Halloween Screams show times are announced.
