There is one big problem when you decide to build a theme park in a heavily populated area — limited space. One of the theme parks dealing with the issue of space is Universal Studios Hollywood. Now that the Southern California theme park is allowing more crowds, wait times are skyrocketing, and Guests are begging Universal to expand.

Universal is expanding, but not in the way you might expect! A brand new 400,000 square foot office campus is coming to the area and land clearing has already begun for the project.

Urbanize LA reports that this is what Universal is planning for the space:
According to a landing page on the website of Hathaway Dinwiddie, the project’s general contractor, plans call for the construction:
- an 11-story, 331,000-square-foot office building;
- an 84,000-square-foot employee center;
- an eight-story, 1,265-car parking garage;
- the addition of offices, food services, conference facilities, and screening rooms to existing buildings.

Instagram user Five Fires YouTube (@thecalibae) shared images of construction happening down by the Universal Sound Stages, including the leveling out of a large area.
Universal Studios Hollywood is making big moves with this dirt field in the back area behind the European villages in the studio tour. All speculation but it looks like universal is expanding studio stages and maybe all rumor expand the theme park by taking down sound stages. Only time will tell. We will keep updating as time goes on!
As you can see in the pictures, a large area has been cleared and construction crews are hard at work down on the Universal Lot. The new building is scheduled to be completed in 2023.

While it is sad that the newly cleared area is not for a theme park expansion, there is an exciting new park area that will be opening inside Universal Studios Hollywood in the future! Crews are currently moving full steam ahead on a Super Mario World, which will be located near the Transformers™: The Ride 3D. No opening date has been announced for that exciting area of the theme park at this time.
