Bowser's Castle Begins Taking Shape at Universal Studios Hollywood - Inside the Magic

Universal Studios Hollywood is hard at work building Super Nintendo World on the lower lot of the theme park. As construction continues to move forward on the project, we can see the outline of some iconic buildings taking shape!

Let’s take a look at the construction and try to guess when the land could open.

As you know Universal Studios Japan opened its Super Nintendo World expansion back in March. This was the first of many Super Nintendo World expansions coming to Universal theme parks around the world including Universal Orlando Resort, Universal Studios Singapore, and Universal Studios Hollywood.

Universal has not given an official opening date for any of the other Super Nintendo World expansions, however, from the obvious ongoing construction at Universal Studios Hollywood it appears that is the expansion that will open next.

Thanks to a video from Theme Park reporter Five Fires on Youtube, you can see how much has gone up inside Super Nintendo World since our last construction check-in.

You can see that the buildings inside the land are beginning to take shape, including what will be Bowser’s Castle! Bowser’s Castle is the entrance to the Mario Kart attraction that will anchor the land when it opens. The Mario Kart attraction is housed in that extremely large new show building at the back of the land so it is easy to spot if you know what you are looking for.

Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge, as it is called in Universal Studios Japan’s Super Nintendo World, opened to mixed reviews. We believe that this will be the only large-scale attraction in each Super Nintendo World expansion much like Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is the main attraction inside each Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade land found in every Universal theme park.

It is also likely that the name of the attraction will be changed to Mario Kart: Bower’s Challenge in the US theme parks as the Bowser character name changes by region.

At this time we have few details in regards to any of the upcoming Super Nintendo World expansion, but we will continue to monitor the construction at Universal Studios Hollywood and share big milestones. With no opening date announced, and considering the construction progress it is likely that Super Nintendo World could open at the beginning of next year. But that is just our own speculation.
