Space Mountain is one of the most popular rides in Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. Keeping in theme with Tomorrowland, Space Mountain blasts Guests off into space as they board a rocket on the indoor roller coaster and zoom past stars, constellations, planets, and more.
But as many of you know, when Disney Imagineers work on an attraction, they think of everything. The experience doesn’t start the second you board the ride — It starts the second you walk into the coaster’s queue line at Magic Kingdom.

Space Mountain has a fun, themed queue line that allows Guests to feel instantly transported as they get ready to blast off into space on this indoor roller coaster. But that’s not all because even once the ride experience is over, Guests will still be fully immersed in the theming of it all as they walk off the attraction.
The keyword in that last sentence — Walk.
In case you have no idea what I am referring to, a few years ago, Guests would not “walk” off of the attraction. In fact, Disney had installed a moving platform that Guests would step onto and glide past different space-themed displays as they were being transported out of the building.
Parts of the iconic moving sidewalk at the end of Space Mountain can be seen in our YouTube video below:
Space Mountain’s moving walkway finale was removed a few years ago and now Guests physically have to walk out of the building instead of being transported down the long hallway. Well, some fans are now speaking out about this missing element and wish Disney would bring the moving sidewalk back.
Reddit user notknownbyno1 took to the social media platform to start a thread, expressing how they miss the moving sidewalk as it brought nostalgia and “futuristic magic”. They write:
Hello. Childless millennial here! Is anyone else deeply disheartened that space mountain removed the moving sidewalk from the exit ?! For me it kind of takes away that futuristic magic and nostalgia. Let’s start a petition to bring it back !?
The post gathered several comments, all from fellow Disney World fans also missing the moving sidewalk. Reddit user Rabsram_eater expressed:
Honestly that was always one of the highlights for me on that ride
While another Reddit user, the_scientist52, explained that they did not realize it was removed and they are very upset to hear this news:
I was not aware that it’s been removed and yes I’m deeply disheartened!! That was always such a highlight and I agree that it added to the theme.
Reddit user, Bsooks, recently visited Disney World and while they were leaving Space Mountain, they suddenly realized the moving sidewalk was no longer there:
We left Disney last week, first trip in 2 years.
Wife and I rode space mountain while the kids were sleeping. After about 30 seconds walking through the exit, “didn’t this used to move?”.
Not sure about best part of the attraction, but definitely iconic and memorable. Like, moving sidewalks are the future aren’t they?
There are several other comments as well from various Disney fans. It seems as though the moving sidewalk was more popular than one may have realized!

Walt Disney World describes this Tomorrowland attraction as:
Blast off on a rip-roaring rocket into the furthest reaches of outer space on this roller-coaster ride in the dark.
Dip and careen into the inky blackness as a futuristic soundtrack echoes all around you. Fly past shooting stars and celestial satellites. Roar past streaking orbs of light, wayward comets and migrant meteors. Feel the pull of gravity as you’re drawn into a swirling wormhole!
