After Marvel Studios revealed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would premiere on May 5, 2023, there was immediate excitement about the fact we were seeing our favorite “group of A-holes” again.

Star-Lord himself (Chris Pratt) even got in on the fun of the announcement, jokingly replying to director James Gunn’s Tweet with “I can’t wait! I loved the first two!!”

Pratt making jokes to Gunn is delightful to see, if only because the actor keeps proving that he is Star-Lord. And as it turns out, Gunn himself was no stranger to playing around with cheeky Twitter responses.

While doing a short Q&A on social media, he fielded questions from fans. When someone asked about further casting for Guardians Vol. 3, he gave a response Star-Lord would be proud of and name-dropped current cast members Pratt, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, and Sean Gunn.

Star-Lord is @prattprattpratt, Drax is @DaveBautista, Mantis is @PomKlementieff, Nebula is @karengillan, and Kraglin is @seangunn. There you go!

Interestingly, Gunn’s Tweet doesn’t include Gamora (Zoe Saldana.) Technically, Gamora died on Vormir in Avengers: Infinity War, so she’s no longer part of the Guardians crew. But in Avengers: Endgame, the time heist brought her 2014 version back to the present day. She fled after the battle and after turning against her father, but Star-Lord was clearly intent on finding his lost love.

Presumably, part of the story of Guardians Vol. 3 will be focused on Star-Lord’s search and Gamora’s possible return and re-integration into the Marvel Universe. (Hey, it happened with White Vision — anything is possible when it comes to the MCU!)

Although May 2023 seems like it’s far away, Gunn also gave a good reminder that to filmmakers, time passes differently between scriptwriting, filming, post-production, and editing when he responded to a Tweet about the film being two years away.

“It’s a little stressful that the release date is so close. Apparently you and I look at these things differently.”

It’s good to know that even with a pandemic, the cast and crew of Marvel’s space saga haven’t lost their sense of humor. We’re looking forward to the third installment of the Guardians trilogy not only because we’re eager to see how the stories of these characters end, but also for the humor. It’s been a long year, and we know we can count on Gunn to provide us with the laughs we’ve been missing.
