Virtual Choc Walk

Every year for thirty years, Disney has worked with Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) for their Annual CHOC Walk in the Park. The CHOC Walk in the Park helps the hospital raise money to help treat the sick children under their care. Last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Disneyland Resort CHOC Walk became virtual. The walk is remaining virtual this year, and Disney is reminding Guests that there is still time to register.

If you are unfamiliar with the CHOC Walk, here is some information on the event, which will take place virtually on May 22, 2021:

As a non-profit hospital, CHOC Children’s relies on community support to provide leading-edge care for infants, children and adolescents close to home. Community outreach and fundraising ensures that we can continue to nurture, advance and protect the health and well-being of children everywhere.

The CHOC Walk is CHOC’s most important fundraiser, raising almost $3 million every year for the children in our community. CHOC Walk donations make an immediate impact on families going through the most challenging time in their lives, providing the highest level of care not only to patients but the extended family that make up their support teams.

In addition to raising money for Children’s Hospital of Orange County through the CHOC Walk, the Walt Disney Company has started a $100 million philanthropic mission to help ease children’s experiences in children’s hospitals throughout the country. One of the first projects was an art installation at the Children’s Hospital of Orange County, which was designed by Walt Disney Imagineer Katie Barnes — a former CHOC patient herself.

Katie shared just what the project meant to her with Disney Parks Blog:

“The first time I walked in, the memories came flooding back,” said Katie, who was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease and spent about seven years in and out of CHOC for testing and treatment, beginning when she was just 18 months old. “The idea that I would have the opportunity to be part of bringing smiles and positivity to not just the children here who are going through such a difficult time, but also to the families and the staff, well, it’s just really special.”

You can see more about Katie’s meaningful art installation by watching the video below:
