We have just learned that Jim MacPhee, Walt Disney World’s Senior Vice President of Operations, is retiring from the company.
Throughout the pandemic, MacPhee has been a spokesperson for Disney Parks, advocating for a positive, safe reopening of Disney World. Over the past several months, the Disney executive has reiterated his confidence in Walt Disney World Resort’s ability to operate during an ongoing pandemic.
He has also advocated for the reopening of Disneyland Resort, even sharing that “Disneyland has been ready to roll since July, awaiting guidance from the state Governor on what the reopening protocols would be.” As of right now, Disneyland still remains closed due to state protocols and regulations.
According to MacPhee’s LinkedIn, he started at The Walt Disney Company in 1978 as Operations Executive Across Multiple. In 1999, MacPhee moved to become Vice President, Operations Disneyland Resort before moving back to Walt Disney World in 2003, becoming Vice President, Park Operations.
In 2007, MacPhee took on the title of Vice President of EPCOT, a position in which he stayed for three years. In 2010, he moved to Vice President, Next Generation Experience and Walt Disney World Parks. MacPhee then took the position of Vice President, Operations/Chief Operating Officer of Walt Disney World, where he oversaw all site operations, including Disney Springs, Live Entertainment, Food and Beverage, Resorts, Transportation and Parks. This is the position MacPhee is retiring at. He was with the company for over 42 years.
Jeff Vahle, President of Walt Disney World Resort, took to Instagram to share MacPhee’s retirement news, writing:
Congratulations to my friend and colleague Jim MacPhee on his upcoming retirement after 42 years of making magic at Disney. I met Jim as we prepared to open Disney’s Animal Kingdom. He is many things—leader, innovator, friend, husband & father. He is also a beacon for what is great in our Disney heritage. He leaves behind a tremendous legacy inspiring our Cast and helping bring magic to life for our guests. Please join me in congratulating Jim and his family as they begin the next chapter of their story on April 1!
We here at Inside the Magic wish Jim MacPhee a huge congratulations on his retirement of The Walt Disney Company after 42 years. We wish you nothing but the best.
