Credit: Disney Parks BlogThe long-awaited rollercoaster coming to EPCOT is getting closer and closer to completion. Let’s take a look at some construction update photos of the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction!
Before we dive into the construction photos, I want to recap the attraction for you and show you the original concept art. That way you have better context at what we are looking at here, and an idea of just how close this coaster is to being completed!
Set to open in 2021, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is an indoor rollercoaster at EPCOT that will feature our favorite Marvel team, a fantastic soundtrack to match the movies, and rotating ride vehicles that are unique to this attraction.
Diseny describes the story flow of the attraction as:
At Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind the adventure will start in the “Galaxarium,” a planetarium-like exhibition that explores the similarities and mysteries of the formation of Earth’s galaxy and Xandar. You’ll be invited to learn more about Xandar’s treasures – until the moment when the Guardians of the Galaxy arrive, and adventures across the cosmos ensue.

The exterior of the attraction is taking shape! We also see that the area that will be part of the ride’s queue is coming along.

Imagineers have previously given us a behind the scenes look at the track layout and the ride vehicles on a mock version of the track! You can read more about that and see videos here.

Additionally, we have seen Disney continue to file patents for the attraction as it gears up for opening to the public in 2021.
Remember, Disney has announced that this attraction will open in 2021 as part of the 50th Anniversary Celebration at Walt Disney World Resort. Although we do not have many details about the celebration at this time — it will be called The Most Magical Celebration on Earth — likely due to the ongoing pandemic, we anticipate more information coming soon!
