Many Disney fans are excited for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction. This brand new indoor coaster is coming to EPCOT in the near future and will feature the sights and sounds of the extremely popular Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

Disney has shared information on the coaster and continues to tease fans with sneak peeks of the upcoming attraction. Recently we found a patent for technology that was created by Disney for a ride vehicle and we believe it COULD that this could be for Cosmic Rewind. This is purely our own speculation, but we should know for certain when the ride opens in the future.

Here is the technology patent, and this is what it entails:

The amusement park ride include a ride vehicle that can transition from a first configuration to a second configuration during the duration of the ride. The amusement park ride can include a loading area for loading passengers into the ride vehicle and a separate unloading area for disembarking passengers from the ride vehicle. After disembarking passengers from the ride vehicle the ride vehicle travels to a transition area concealed from the public where the ride transitions from the second configuration to the first configuration. In the transition area, maintenance can be performed on the ride vehicle and calibration can be performed on one or more of the ride vehicle systems (e.g., projector or audio systems).

After reading this patent, the main point that leads us to believe the is for Cosmic Rewind is the “first configuration to a second configuration”. This is because as we know the coaster will be showcasing a reverse launch indoors and the ride vehicles will be moving in all directions while the attraction is operational. You can read about the ride vehicles and see more photos of them here.

Additionally, Disney shared a video that shows this unique ride vehicle and its movements in action.

While this video might not look very exciting to some, you have to imagine the whole package of the attraction. Being indoors will allow for projections and set design that will bring the adventure to life!

Disney describes the experience we can expect from this attraction as:

At Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind the adventure will start in the “Galaxarium,” a planetarium-like exhibition that explores the similarities and mysteries of the formation of Earth’s galaxy and Xandar. You’ll be invited to learn more about Xandar’s treasures – until the moment when the Guardians of the Galaxy arrive, and adventures across the cosmos ensue.

We cannot wait to see this attraction when it opens, and while we do not have an opening date from Disney yet we will continue to monitor the construction progress.

Did You Know?

Did you know that this is not the first Guardians of the Galaxy-based attraction? At Disneyland Resort’s Disney California Adventure, you can find Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission BREAKOUT! This is a fast-paced attraction that was a replacement theme to the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction that was previously in the same building.

Disney describes Mission BREAKOUT! as:

Taneleer Tivan, a.k.a. the Collector, has brought his unique collection of fantastical fauna, relics and species from across the cosmos to earth for the very first time. He offers to show you his newest acquisition… the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket, Drax and Groot are held captive in electrified glass cases that dangle perilously over an abyss.

Join a Rockin’ Rescue Mission
When Rocket escapes, he commandeers a gantry lift and enlists your help on a harrowing mission to rescue his fellow Guardians. Prepare to unleash intergalactic mayhem from the top of the fortress to the bottom, as one of Star-Lord’s awesome mixtapes blasts a classic tune!

With incredible special effects, appearances by popular characters, music inspired by the soundtracks from the movies, thrilling free-fall drop sequences and 6 different storylines to experience, this adventure breaks out all the big thrills!

With Cosmic Rewind coming to Walt Disney World it is unlikely that we will see Hollywood Studios Tower of Terror get this overlay change.
