Disney has announced that Blizzard Beach Water Park at Walt Disney World Resort is reopening in March of 2021. This is a very exciting step in the phased reopening of Disney World as it could be the key to allow Annual Passes to be sold once again.
Currently, Disney World is not selling any new Annual Passes, however, you do have the opportunity to renew your Annual Pass if it expired during the closure of Walt Disney World, though this is on a case-by-case basis so it is not a guarantee.
We have done a deep dive on what it could take for Disney World to begin selling Annual Passes again and what we found is that the biggest factor/factors stopping Disney from selling new AP’s were the lengthy closure of the water parks, and the suspension of park hopping (However, Disney has not released any statements regarding if this is or is not true. This is solely based on our perspective and suspicions).
Disney World has 8 different Annual Passes for Guests to choose from — Two of those are specifically for the water parks. In case you aren’t aware, Walt Disney World is home to two water parks — Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. It is possible that Disney is waiting for all of its theme parks and water parks to reopen before selling new Annual Passes.
Now that Disney has given a reopening date for Blizzard Beach Water Park, we could also soon see a date for Typhoon Lagoon as well. That would mean that all Disney theme parks and water parks would be reopened and it would be easy for Disney World to begin selling Annual Passes once again.
Park Hopping is also returning to Walt Disney World in 2021 and so Guests who have been able to keep their Annual Passes but have not been able to utilize the Park Hopping feature may feel like they have not been able to get the full “bang for their buck”. But, with Park Hopping now coming back (with a few modifications to fit the ongoing pandemic) and one of its water parks reopening next spring, it may now be worth having an Annual Pass as it will allow Guests to maximize their time at Walt Disney World.
So what do you think? Could Disney begin selling new Annual Passes now that Blizzard Beach and Park Hopping are returning? Let us know in the comments!
