Increase in Disney Restaurant Availability Result of Technical Issue

This morning, more dining reservations for Walt Disney World Resort restaurants appeared through the end of the year.

But after the dining reservation system crashed, it appeared as though the increased availability of dining reservations was a result of a website update. Disney has not shared that they plan to increase restaurant capacity.

We at Inside the Magic first discovered this on the My Disney Experience app this morning. Attempting to change an upcoming reservation, one of our reporters discovered that a plethora of more dining time options appeared to be available for several restaurants across multiple days when none were found yesterday.

These included reservations for Kona Cafe at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Topolino’s Terrace at Disney’s Riviera Resort, and the Whispering Canyon at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.

While there was no official word on the matter from Disney, the increase in reservations suggested that Disney World restaurants might be planning on increasing capacity.

But from what we have gathered via the Walt Disney World website and Guest Services, it looks as though the system was in the middle of an update (Disney was adding “Magical Enhancements,” as they typically say). Because of this, there seemed to be a technical issue that caused a variety of available table service dining reservations to appear online. Rest assured that if you managed to snag one of these reservations before the dining reservation system crashed, Disney will be working with Guests individually to hopefully accommodate for their needs. If you want to book dining for an upcoming visit, Guests are being advised to wait until the system is back up and running later today, or call the dining team at (407) 939-1947.

When Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed the executive order bringing Florida into Phase 3 of reopening, one of the re-established freedoms was that restaurants would be able to increase capacity. Disney responded to the reopening by reaffirming that they would be keeping park capacities the same, but failed to necessarily mention if anything new regarding the restaurants.

At this time, Disney has not stated that they are increasing capacity at any restaurant on property, but we will update Inside the Magic if this is the case.

The Walt Disney World Resort website currently states that restaurants are still operating at limited capacity. Remember, also, that face masks are required to be worn while you are walking around the parks, resorts, and Disney Springs, unless you are stationary and eating or drinking.
