The coronavirus pandemic has struck many businesses very hard and The Walt Disney Company was no exception. Unfortunately, due to what we now know is a $2.4 billion dollar annual loss in the theme park division alone, there have been a plethora of Disneyland and Disney World layoffs this year — totaling approximately 28,000 Cast Members on both coasts. Luckily, Cast Member Pantry was created and now they are visiting Anaheim and Burbank to help.
Cast Member Pantry started in Orlando and recently expanded to California amid the layoffs as a way to assist Cast Members who were losing their livelihood. What Cast Member Pantry does is simple and is noted on their Facebook page:
Are you or a fellow cast member you know in need of groceries during this difficult time?
Cast Member Pantry makes it quick and easy to receive free food essentials once a month per Cast Member. You’ll receive a reusable grocery bag filled with foods that are easily put together to make meals for 4, with breakfast and snack options as well. We take pride in putting food we all enjoy in our bags because we believe our Cast deserve the very best, and a little comfort too.
Disney fans began flocking to the organization to assist, even Josh Gad made a very public donation. The success in Orlando allowed for it to begin in California, and now Cast Member Pantry is spreading the word in Anaheim and Burbank.
The organization recently noted, “Just a quick update! We have been in Anaheim since Wednesday spreading the word about Cast Member Pantry for all who were willing to listen (?) and today we will be in Burbank, CA! Want to learn more about our West Coast operation? Come visit us today between 1:30-5pm in Downtown Burbank!! You can message us for location details. We’d love to meet more CM’s in the area and load you up with some flyers and CMP swag.”
Just a quick update! We have been in Anaheim since Wednesday spreading the word about Cast Member Pantry for all who…
The important thing we noticed here were the locations that were listed. Anaheim is of course the location of Disneyland Resort and Burbank is home to Walt Disney Studios — both locations that have Cast Members who have recently been laid off from the Walt Disney Company.
