Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is about to undergo a very exciting Moana-themed refurbishment, with some rooms being converted to fit the films aesthetic as well.

If you cannot wait to belt “How Far I’ll Go“ in the new Moana-themed bathrooms, we are now one step closer. Disney has now filed seven permits that suggests Disney will begin refurbishing the rooms at this Disney resort.

Disney’s Polynesian Resort has permits filed for each building at the hotel. The buildings that are set to undergo construction are Moorea, Tuvalu, Niue, Fiji, Raratonga, Hawaii, and Samoa. Earlier this summer, we reported that the the Moana-themed rooms would include:

…a move to a Pacific Ocean-inspired color palette as well as details, patterns and textures from Disney’s “Moana,” an animated film that takes place on the Polynesian island of Motunui.

Right now, the rooms at the Polynesian are very tranquil looking, with soft greens and wooden tones surrounding the Deluxe Resort. With the ocean palette described, it seems that this relaxing vibe may continue but more blues will be introduced into the rooms.

Rooms will not be the only thing undergoing a re-theming at this resort! The Great Ceremonial House has already began to see construction. The lobby of Disney’s Polynesian Resort has always been a grand entrance, and it seems that Imagineers are ready to continue that legacy with a touch of Moana

One of the biggest changes will greet you right up front – a new porte cochere will showcase the iconic mid-20th century architecture the Polynesian is famous for. Our team from Walt Disney Imagineering and Walt Disney World have crafted a design inspired by colors, patterns and textures found throughout the resort.  This new entry features a high-pitched, open-truss roof covered in a thatch style. There’s also a bold façade that features pops of color complementing the Longhouses found throughout the resort. Along the Monorail station, bold new wooden screens will be covered with geometric patterns in bright, tropical colors that complete an exciting new composition that will greet you when you arrive.

Enhancements will also be made to the lush gardens and fountains that have welcomed guests to the resort since opening day.

The open and airy design of the entryway will feature dramatic lighting elements, including beautiful chandeliers inspired by glass floats, fishing nets and oversized bamboo elements. The new chandeliers will match the existing grand chandelier in the resort lobby, artfully bridging interior and exterior spaces.

It will be exciting to find all of the Moana Easter eggs that this resort is going to include, as well as the possibility of seeing more Moana characters around the resort. The resort will be closing as of November 2nd until next July 2021, but stay tuned to ITM to keep on top of all the latest construction updates on Disney’s Polynesian Resort.
