Two Guest-favorite live shows at Disneyland Resort are closing.
Performers took to Instagram tonight to share that Frozen Live at the Hyperion and Mickey and the Magical Map will not be returning to Disney California Adventure or Disneyland when the southern California Disney Parks reopen. This announcement coincides with the news that 28,000 Cast Members across Disneyland and Walt Disney World will be laid off beginning November 1 — as well as news of a variety of entertainment being cut from Disney World.
Below is Disneyland Resort performer Cassie Simone’s full post:
Frozen-Live At The Hyperion and Magical Map are officially closing. I will treasure the privilege I had of being among those to originate both Anna and Poca in the opening casts, and consider it an honor to see them through to the bittersweet end. To our fans, know that YOU are the reason we stayed alive for as long as we did. To my fellow cast and crew, I love you with all my heart. We will be back on stage…somewhere…someday. What a chapter to close. On to the next dream! #frozenliveatthehyperion #flath #mickeyandthemagicalmap
Other performers also took to social media to share their memories:
These two shows ran for years at the Disneyland Resort and delighted Guests with every performance.
Note that while Disney has not shared any official announcements regarding these live shows officially closing, the Disneyland Resort website has stated for some time now that when the theme parks reopen, they will not be offering certain experiences that draw a crowd.
Additionally, select attractions and certain experiences that draw large group gatherings—such as parades and nighttime spectaculars—will return at a later date. While character meet-and-greets will be temporarily unavailable, Characters will be in our parks in new ways to entertain and delight our Guests. The Disneyland Resort will also have capacity measures in place, as well as limitations on parking and operating hours.
The website does not mention Frozen Live at the Hyperion or Mickey and the Magical Map by name. However, it’s important to note that when Walt Disney World Resort first reopened its theme parks back in mid-July, stage shows were not occurring then, either. Many Guests continue to hold out hope that these two Disneyland Resort favorites will return one day in the future. But for now, it has been reported that these shows have closed.
Below are the official descriptions of these two Disneyland Resort live shows.
Frozen Live at the Hyperion
This dazzling theatrical interpretation of the smash-hit animated feature tells the emotional and heartwarming adventures of royal sisters Anna and Elsa—live on stage. See beloved characters—including Kristoff, Sven and Olaf—perform unforgettable songs made famous in the film.
The 1-hour show stays true to the movie’s poignant story, while also presenting a unique take on the tale through elaborate costumes and sets, stunning special effects and show-stopping production numbers.
It’s truly an unforgettable theatrical experience that will captivate the entire family!
Mickey and the Magical Map
Mickey has been left alone with an unfinished—and enchanted—map. When he can’t resist taking a paintbrush and trying to complete the map himself, a wild journey ensues!
Some favorite Disney Characters make appearances along the way, including:
- King Louie from The Jungle Book
- Pocahontas from Pocahontas
- Mulan from Mulan
- Rapunzel and Flynn Rider from Tangled
- Tiana from The Princess and the Frog
Where will Mickey take you? Just follow the map to this charming musical adventure!
Our hearts go out to all of the Disneyland Resort Cast Members and performers during this time. Thank you for the magic you create.
