Marvel’s blind vigilante is coming back home and can soon be added to its ever-expanding cinematic universe. A new report reveals that a pre-existing agreement with Netflix is about to expire, allowing Marvel Studios to begin using Daredevil for new projects in as early as six months.

According to Movieweb.com, while Marvel always retained the rights to Daredevil, their deal with Netflix has prohibited them for using him in any new projects. But once Disney+’s chief competitor decided to cancel its previously-running Daredevil series, the studios still had to wait for two years to do anything new:

To clear up any possible confusion, whilst Marvel Studios do still retain the rights to the Daredevil property, as well as the rest of The Defenders, the initial agreement between Marvel and Netflix stipulated that should any of the superhero series be axed, Marvel Studios would have to refrain from using the characters for exactly 18 months after the shows were canceled. As a result of Marvel’s agreement with the streaming service, they have been unable to include the characters in any of their recent shows or movies.

The Save Dare Devil Campaign has also been counting down the days until new content with Matt Murdock can be made.

They write:

“18 months have passed since #Daredevil was cancelled which also means 18 months since we launched the #SaveDaredevil campaign!
“We knew we’d be in this for the long haul but every day we’re inspired by #MattMurdock and Daredevil fans all over the world who are in this fight with us! We look forward to the next 6 months passing quickly toward the end of the 2 year moratorium with Netflix and with your help.”

It is unclear right now how Marvel intends to incorporate their new action figure into their proverbial toy chest. Show star Charlie Cox is not very optimistic about the show continuing on Disney+.

“I don’t feel that way, no,” he said. “And, I don’t know why I don’t feel that way. But, I haven’t been given any reason to believe that. And, from a cynical point of view, it just feels like maybe I’m trying to protect myself, ’cause I’d love nothing more than to do it again.”

Cox also, apparently, denounce an ongoing rumor that he will be joining Tom Holland in the third Spider-Man: Homecoming installment. At least, he won’t be, anyway. Perhaps Marvel is gearing up for another recast. At this point, though, only time will tell.
